WHAT A SHOOT !!! 08 NCOWS NATIONAL
« on: June 08, 2008, 12:33:55 PM »
I'am back home and can't believe a week went by that fast. What a good time we had. Want to think all the cowboys and cowgirls that came to Evansville to shoot with us. What about that camping area plenty of shade a little wind to help keep us cool. Don't know how many people came through to watch and everyone of them had good comments about our sport and all like the NCOWS' camp. The presenting of our colors was a special moment. Also want to thank the West Side clulb that worked so hard and made us feel welcome. The jr. members that did the cooking on Friday and Saturday. The group that catered our awards dinner(man what FOOD). The Red Brush club that handled our side matches. Really want to think Doc. Goodluck at Red Brush. Lefty and his lady, Schofield Kid, and Duke Henry at West Side, all of West Side again. The vendors that set up and Hamilton Dry Goods. TTN for donating their fine coach gun. We had fun shooting,  had good food to eat, and the best people in the world to be with. It was just a super event. Thanks for being there and letting me be part of it.Texas Jack Stephens  TJ  :D

It was a great match!!  I have been doing CAS for about 10 years now and normally make 2 State or Regional matches a year.  This was by far one of the best run and organized shoots that I have ever been to.   It is a very nice range and the stages were well written with good use of props and fun targets.

Hope others feel the same way.

It was a nice shoot and I appreciated being allowed to set up a small trade booth at no cost to me.  I made a little money and a couple of new friends too!

Next year, if anyone needs help with computer and/or mailing awork or even with meal planning and off-site housing arrangements, I'd be happy to help.  We can prepare certificates ahead of the shoot and hand-letter the names when the winners are named and save the trouble of printing on site.  Well ok, I'll volunteer Ottawa Creek Bill to hand-letter the certificates and I'll provide the  quill and fine and authentic artist quality ink AND moral support.

The banquet and facilities were wonderful too.   The cute pink potties for the ladies were quite nice actually.

Wild Roses, I offered to do the certificates by hand as I used to do caligraphy and had done some in Old English and Script for other sportsman's groups and department stores and such, but some of the awards like "I finally beat Irsh Dave" were calculated and offered at the very last minute. My normal handwriting has always been in the old time script of the 1800's as my grandmother and grandfather were teachers in their early days and my grandfather taught me to write a "fine hand" as a  lady should.  We were told no awards had been given in the past (before J.D. Goodguy started to award them) for side matches. We thought it would be nice to acknowledge the winners with something.  We presented Jeff Farmer with one I think year before last called"I finally beat Libby" which he really appreciated. He said it is in his safe deposit box.  It was notarized by an active notary in Kentukcy, duly witnessed by a shooter that watched as the scores were added up and a notary seal affixed. I would have done the same on the "I beat Irsh Dave" award except my notary has expired. The pink potties were very cute, and appreciated!

Will Munny won the" I finally beat Irish Dave" award.  He beat him on two stages according to JD Goodguy. JD is getting all the scores together to e-mail to George so he can post them on NCOWS.org page.  So keep checking, they are Comming soon.  Also we got the film for the disposable cameras developed and put on disc to send to George so they can be posted as well.  There are some really good pictures in there. Hi Ima,

I was just trying to be helpful and certainly did not intend to step on your toes!  I heard many complaints about the amount of work the planners were having to do, so seriously, I am happy to help anyway I can.  Pre-printing the certificates seems like a sensible way to cut down on the on-site work, but that's just me.     I'm sure your handwriting is as lovely as your prize winning period dress.   ;D

Deadeye Don,

What happened to you Saturday night?  How did you get home? Did you swim down I-65?

Ima Sureshot
,

I didn't intend to cause offense with the offer to help with the work at next year's shoot, no matter where it is held. It seemed that the people who were working had little opportunity to participate in the fun, so the offer is open if the assistance is needed.

The certificates were a great idea so it is nice to know they originated with Mr. Good Guy.

Wild Rose, no offense taken, no toes stepped on.  I was just trying to explain why they were done the way they were.

WR,   I took the advice of other pards and went home via Terre Haute.   :(   It only took me 6.5 hours to get to Carmel.  I-70 was closed and so they were routing on a parallel road.  Me and 10,000 other vehicles all trying to get east.   I now know that 1-65 was also closed around Coumbus so that way would not have worked either.  I should have stayed put in Evansville, but I had plans for Sunday and my wife was expecting me home.   I am sure you all had a much better time than I did on Saturday night.

Hello Dr. Deadeye Don,

We were worried about you when we found out you headed for home!  Lots of water damage around us and more rain coming this weekend  :'(

Hope our range dries out in time for the June SMVS Shoot.   :D

Thats for a great match folks! and to our dedicated members who were able to attend.
Great job by the match directors, volunteers and WSSC!

Special thanks to Dusty Tagalon for his work with the color guard and for the great photos he shared at the match!

No problems getting home for me via IL-57, but I did note a LOT of WI and IN plates on the road.
