Forty Rod, that cake with out the fruit and with the gumdrops is wonderful. One of my friends makes that evey year and brings it to Rock Creek Station and we eat it in the shadow of Wild Bill himself. By the way if any one is interested the gumdrops are period correct to at least the 1860's and this cake was often made as a substitute to fruit cake when the candied fruit could not be obtained and the gumdrops could. I like it much better.

The pecans were added as folks settled in this country and they were growin' wild. This is considered the direct ancestor of the pecan pie.
Both are good recipes and the insulin is a good idea for some folks cause they is rich and sweet.
