Remington Rolling Block Stock and Forend Help requested
« on: January 24, 2008, 02:38:09 PM »
I've been very lax in visiting this site over the past few months.

Unfortunately the part of my existance that the uninitated like to call "real life" has taken precedence lately.

For this abscence I appologise.

Now for the reason I am here writing this post.

I need help.

For almost 18 months now I have been rebuilding a 12ga Swedish RB action into a 45-70 target rifle.

Action is now OK, barrel has been fitted, parts have been "browned" (cos I like it), sights are ready to be fitted.

Now I need to build the wood work.

I have some nice pieces of walnut with lovely patterns in it. Air dried for 10 years.

I havent done much wood work so I need advice.

Anyone out there buit a stock and foreend for their RB, I would love to hear from you.

Anyone have a layout for either or both pieces of the woodwork. I would love to hear from you.

Your help would be much appreciated.

Chris

I don't have a pattern, but I have used Treebone wood on my RB. He will carve your wood to his pattern, if that is what you want. There are others about, but I have experience with George and can verify the quality of his stocks. Call him and chat a spell, he may sell you a pattern . . .

Continuing the story.

I have given up on making a stock from a blanl.

I was away at a shoot last week and by chance another shooter had a 90% fininshed stock and forend for sale.

Grade 2 American Walnut, target buttstock with a cheeckpice already carved.

All I have to do is the final fitting to the action, drill the forend and make a tenon for it to attach to the barrel.

Now on to finish. I have a large quantity of 600 grit sandpaper and bottles of linseed oit (boiled). I am going to attempt to give this poiece an english finish.

Wish me luck.
