The Great Platte River Road usually refers to the Orygun/Calyforia Trail, but the Lincoln HighWay (US 30)  the Original UP line and now I-80 also follow the Platte, more or less.  Even many of the fur trappers floated down the Plattee.  This means that many undesirables have passed through the state in the last 200 years.  We hope the undesirables still just pass right on through. ;D

Dang, Del, you sound like a James Michener book I once read. I can't remember the name of it right now, but it was a good read.

Yep, read them both, read most of his stuff at one time or another. Mayhaps it is time to pick up new copies and delve back in!
