Suggestion for a new Society for the 1876.
« on: November 26, 2007, 04:45:31 PM »
I sent Marshal Halloway a suggestion for a new Society for those of us who are interested in the Winchester Model of 1876.

Given that we now have two makers building replicas of the 1876 Winchester, and being as there is little to no organized clearing house of info on these rifles and their calibers, what do you folks think about a board here devoted to the 1876?  The good Marshal is open to the idea, if we have enough interest.

I suggest The Brotherhood of 1876.  Whatscha think, pards and pardettes? :)

It would make me sound so OLD!  I.m on.  Rattlesnake Jack has a good topic going in the Barracks already,  Might not hurt to consolidate the info, ' cause there's quite a lot to learn!

Har!  I guess it does sound old!  I resemble that remark! :D

There is a lot to learn - or relearn - about the model of 1876.

As a new M'76 shooter I think this is a good idea as yes, there is a lot to be learned (re-learned) about the if's, and's or but's of this rifle.

So that the topic doesn't go dry after a month or two you might consider including other big bore lever and pump action rifles in it also.

Just my two bits worth.

I agree with adding other big bore lever rifles to the name of the forum.  This would not encroach upon the buffalo gun group.  Sign me up.   ;)

Sounds ok to me, but any non-pistol caliber big bor is welcome in BROw if you don't get enough interest in a seperate group.  Read the Who can join thread, just ignore the parts about Buicks if you want, we got a little off topic. ;)

Yes ... "heavy little rascals" might be a better description!   ;D

Suppose we'll each just need to get a horse to carry ours for us!   ;)

Yes they are heavy, and a horse is the way to pack one for sure. :D

I saw one for sale on one of the gun auction sites, and the seller referred to it a "a real man's rifle."  Har! ;D

If you guys want to start any threads about these in BROW, I'll move them to the new forum when it gets set up.  BTW if anybody wants to get me a Chrismas present I'll take a regular carbine in 45-60, if they were good enough for TR they ought to work for me. ;)

Thanks, Del!  Appreciate your support. :)

Those carbines are sweet.  By the way, I think both Uberti and Chaparral now have the rifle available with the 22 inch barrel as well.

Sadly it is gonna be a couple years before I can afford one, but I want one for deer hunting, the Sharps is just too long and heavy for walking and although the 99 in 243 and the Big Bore 375 will handle any deer I see, just want one.

Grizzly Adams,
Just read through all the posts on the '76 and I think it would be a good idea.  I was able to pick up a Cimarron by Uberti a couple of weeks ago.  Havn't been able to shoot it yet, don't have any brass. But I got my dies three days ago and have my brass on order from Rocky Mountain Cartridge Co.  Mine is the 28" rifle and it sure feels good when you shoulder the weapon. Looking forward to hearing more from others.  By the way I"ll be shooting BP only.

Thanks Texas Sarge
