Delmonico asked me to post this pic because Slim is gone for the weekend. Del's been looking at it and is stumped. Anyone have a clue as to what this rifle is?
Here is the webpage for it:

I blew up that portion of the pic quite a bit. He has is thumb on top of the lever with his index finger below the lever & pointing to his right. His other 3 fingers ar supporting the lever. It looks like a 95 but definitely hard to say positively.

I've looked at it again on 3300 pics and have played with the brightness and contrast and have decided that it is and Mr. Butcher must have mistook a 8 for a 9 in his notes when he cataloged them in about 1915. 1899 would make sense and some of the 95 Wins had Snabel forends.
The link died again, I don't know why they do but try this.

That is the home page, do the search hunting and it is the 11th picture. click on it, click on small picture and scroll under the larger one and really kick it up.

Below is a pic of a 1895 Win. Look at the receivers and the "two piece" levers. I would save most definitely a 1895 Win.

I have to agree. the Savage is smoother at the rear of the reciever...no hump at all.
This looks like my Winchester 95.
