Henry Miltary Sling
« on: July 30, 2007, 09:12:17 PM »
I am wanting to put a sling on my military Henry. I would think that just about any strap that was available at the time could be used, and probably was used. I see that Dixie gun Works has one listed. About $40. I was wondering about maybe using a small brass harness or dog collar type snap and a simple 1/2 inch strap. It is always more fun to make your own equipment if possible. Any body got any ideas?

You could probably take the pics of the Dixie one to any good leather shop and they could make one.  You might need to find a "period correct" (threw that one in for Driftwood  ;)) hook and buckle.

S&S gear (firearms) has them for about $29 with authentic hook and waxed finish leather with Henry Repeating Arms stamp. Great service and fast shipping.

I'll second TL's suggestion.  Good service and the sling looks great.

Since the Henry (and the Winchester) had a very 'specific' sling - buying the correct hardware and the proper weight of leather - then properly assembling and finishing it all will cost more than the S&S Firearms sling.

Good Luck.

Thanks for the input St. George. You are probably right about it costing more. I will check on the S& sling.

I used a leather sling from the German HK G3 purchased as a surplus item in a military shop, equivalent to $ 5.00.

When I used my Henry in mounted reenacting...
my sling was a shoulder strap from the issue cavalry saber belt.
there is bent brass hook that is used for adj. that works fine in the Barrel staple , a the strap has a loop keeper  to adj around the butt swivel...
The strap on the Saber belt was often used for other purposes in field use ....
when planets align...do the deal !

My 02-03 catalog has them priced at $35.  Are they on sale, or just found a cheaper vendor?
