Why. . . . Holy Black?
« on: February 15, 2007, 09:11:12 PM »
Because it was first?

Because it's extremely consistent?

Because I like the flames and smoke?

Because the myth of the Wild West lives best in the shootin' of the Holy Black?

So, for yer shootin', Why. . . . Holy Black?

When I use it, (which is basically for long range rifle, due to storage issues where I live), I like black for the BOOM, the exquisite smoke, and yes, the smell.

777 is a fine powder, practical, easy to use, consistent, etc, but the smoke is "off" a little and the sound is not that same robust BOOM, and it has an acrid chemical smell.

For the same reason I cook as much as I can in dutch ovens and won't eat store bought bread, cause is the proper thing to do in many cases. ;)

I like the BOOM, smoke and flames.  I also like it when the RO tells me he is going to have to hold his breath while I shoot because of the smoke. ;D

The smell the BOOM and if dark enough the flames.  Plus like Dick said it was first and really brings the cowboy days back when I use it

Because it is really COOL to shoot it !
 Because I can .
Because it was first.
Because I like the smell.
Because it pisses people off at the Modern Range where I shoot sometimes.
Because it is easy to clean-up.
Because its cheap.
Because I LOVE the history.
Because I am Pollock Indian.
Because it makes my food taste better knowing it died a good death .
Because people ask me why I would want to shoot black powder?
Because they ask me why I would spend so much money on black powder guns when I can have REAL guns ?
Because I like the red and white cans it comes in sometimes.
Because the smoke rolling through the trees on a foggy cold a$$ morning on the hunt.
Because I like the minor delay when shooting C and B .
Because you posted such a nice question about how we feel about being in the presence of Gods favorite substance !!!!!!
Because I like the mess.
Because my mate comments how messy it is.
Because its consistant.
Because you can dry it out and return it to normal which can't be done with the other stuff if it gets humid.
Because it makes nice fireworks.
Because of the pretty flames !!!!!
Because it scares my dog.
Because it scares my neighbors.
Because I am American !!!!

Cheers, Stacey Lee ;D

Hey, them are a whole heard of good reasons.  I've got a whole room full of fine guns that are gathering dust cuz they won't do the Holy Black.  Good guns, but I've kind of lost interest in 'em.  Maybe I'll start sellin' some of 'em heathen guns.

No No No, don't be selling them, they'll make good boat anchors !!!  Or crab pot weights ?
Just teasing. I think were all on the same page and we go through phases like this, some phases are permanant for some people though, shooting BP only , can be that addicting for sure. I think I have spent about $3,000.00 in the last three months on BP guns and supplies, leather etc, so when it is ON, it is ON !!!
Steel Horse Bailey was telling me one of his modern pistols was talking to him the other day telling him what a bad man he was and he was a traitor for not giving his baby some attention, so he went and shot it to quiet the girl. Little does she know he won't be back for awhile.
The other guns I have are not seeing mucha ttention, besides my Ten MEter stuff which I keep in practice with cause I can shoot at home off the porch with them is all, but the others do have a place in the heart too, they just are on the back burner is all.
I personally will never let go or stop shooting my Springfield Armory 6" Longslide, so I think she will be safe from the crab pot, and she knows I do love her too, but I cheat on her on a regular basis. She knows this because they all share the same safe together. But the quarrels I hear at night in my Den is revulting, all the cussing and slander being spoke of who's the best adn how sticky you are.

Oh joy, another day in the Gundome !!!
BP is an ADDICTION not a hobby. In other words it is a way of being ourselves in truth.

Sincerely, Stacey Lee ;D

Because if I'm shooting black I feel the need to make a fool of myself by yelling, screaming and blowing big red smike rings.
I know, I could do the same with smokeless but it just wouldn't feel right.

For the "Buck & Roar"
For the look on the face of the cowboy shootin' lite loaded .38s when he says "What was that?"
When the cambrian measures were forming they promised purpetual peace. They swore if we gave up our weapons the wars of the tribes, they would cease, but when we disarmed they enslaved us and delivered us bound to our foe and the Gods of the copybook headings said, "Stick to the devil you know."
