Wish for a Lightning
« on: February 07, 2007, 11:32:49 AM »
Now, I may be a little loco  :P , but what I was wonderin' to myself about last night would be the feasibility of a "shooter's grade" lightning (a "Rodeo" version Lightning, if you will).  Since so much of the production costs come from the painstaking act of polishing the steel for a nice finish (as I understand), how come a matte black finished Lightning with standard grade walnut wouldn't be possible/practical?  I wouldn't worry near so much about having it on my guncart or getting dinged a little bit.

What I would dearly love would be a "baby carbine" - a la 16" bbl. - in one of these beauties.  Anyway, like I say - maybe I'm loco after all.....

BTW, I do l-o-v-e the finish and look of the premium Lightnings, but I also love the f/f of the SAAs...  budget and 4 kids preclude me from partaking, however  ;D

USFA's 2004 catalog shows the"Cowboy Action Lightning" on page 7, but I guess they got too busy with the Premium Grades, because I have never seen one.

Wow - thanks RR!  Guess I came along to the World of USFA a year or two too late!!!  Didn't know there was once such an animal (or at least a gleam in somebody's eye!)

My wife is wanting a lightning if the price comes down to around $900. We are in no hurry though. Have to pay off the rifles I bought this fall first.
