Blizzard in KC
« on: November 30, 2006, 03:09:46 PM »
I'm just sitting here in the shop looking out the window at the snow faling.
I have an urn of coffee and 6 boxes of new arrived books on shooting, reloading and the old west.
I wish I had a fireplace here at the shop.  Other than that life ain't too bad.

Sunny day here in central Iowa, but only about 17 degrees.   I could use a wood burner too.

The first snow flake here was at 2:15pm.  I just measured 1 1/2 inches in the back parking lot.

Now I am studing Volcanics per Traps request on another thread.  I'd have to go with a carbine.  A lever action pistol just ain't practical.  There is a dandy pictured on pages 104-105 of Age of the Gunfighter by Joseph G. Rosa. [One of the new books.]

I think it is interesting that there were still some NIB ones in the warehouse at Winchester after WWII that they basiclly gave away to their employee's.  Or so I read in some book recently.  I think a lever action pistol would be cool, not practical but cool.

Book's is right!  Building up real fast here too.  'Bout 4 miles as the crow flies. :o ::)  Heading out to my son's house for dinner, a late Thanksgiving with enchiladas and cookies and ice cream.  Happy the ole truck has that there 4WD.   I mostly worry about the fools that drive like it was sunny and seventy in this sort of weather.  Getting to see the granddaughters will be worth it for sure.

Just reshoveled a path into the store and measured again.  We're at 4 inches and still coming down like there's no tomorow.

Now I'm going through the reloading books for .44 Russian data.  No luck so far.

I came in a little while ago from playing with the kiddies out in the snow.  There is something cozy about the first snow of the season.  Come December 26th, I will want it sunny and 90... :)

I would like to have a good snow this winter.  It can start late Friday and snow all night and all day Saturday and then melt overnight Sunday. :)

Just took the dog out.  He is small and hates the snow.  Here in the town formerly known as Strother, I have 6+ inches.   Not going to even bother setting an alarm tomorrow. ;D

I think we're supposed to get some of that action.  It has been raining on & off (mostly ON) all day and the temp is dropping rapidly.  I don't mind the snow, but I sure hope we have a chance for the streets to dry BEFORE the freezing point is reached!

I've been hearing about a lot of problems traveling out that way, I hope you all will be safe and enjoy the snow in a warm, comfy place. We're supposed to get thundershowers and wind here tomorrow.

It was a 45 minute trip both ways to my son's house.  Usually about 25-30 min.  Pretty much a blizzard on the way home just now!  But at least the snow has covered he ice on my street and it is easier to drive on.  Got about 6" in my yard so far and the heavy snow is supposed to be between 11 pm and 3 am.  Glad that I don't have to get up and go to work tomorrow morning. ;D :D ;D :D ;D :D ;D :D ;D :D ;D  SE of KC they are getting 15+ and in Leavenworth, about 25 miles NNW OF KC there is none.  Bought some HOT WINGS at the store this afternoon and have plenty of rum and Madeira laid in, so I'll be just fine! :o ;D

We're drowning here (just east of Indy). Been raining all day and raining even harder now than earlier. Temps are falling and it's supposed to turn to snow sometime overnight or tomorrow.

I think we're gonna miss the worst of it. They're only calling for 1-2 inches now, but the water is starting to flood the roads, streets and farm fields pretty bad. It's a mess. If this had all fallen here as snow, we'd be buried, too.

You guys be careful out there in the brunt of it.

Major Matt!!  Congrats on the '95, early Christmas present.  Santa, I'll take two, one in 30-06 and another in .405   I've been dropping hints for a Henry .22 lever gun, but believe it or not, most of my people think I have enough guns.

Well it stopped snowing over night.  The sun is shining brightly on 7 inches of snow at the shop.  I shoveled a path to the door before putting the coffee on and catching up here at CAS City.

You guys east of here better watch out and bring in plenty of wood for the fire.

We only got about 4 inches here in Madison Wisconsin but it all came down in about 3 hours.  It took my wife 14 minutes to drive the 9 miles to work and since we both had 10:00 doctor appointments I was suppose to pick her up about 9:45.  I left here at 8:30 and didn't get to her office until a little before 10:00.  When she called the doctor's office to tell them we would be late she was told that no one had been in for an appointment yet so not to worry.  We got there about 10:10.  One thing the forecasters got right was that they said it would end at 10:00 Am.  And at that time it was like a switch had been thrown.

The biggest problem was that people must forget how to drive in snow.  They couldn't make it up hills which backed traffic up for blocks.  Since Joan had gone before me I knew where the biggest bottle necks were and took side streets to get around the worst.

I guess Winter is here.
