I've heard the 1858's will be produced by USFA, but sold and marketed by Remington. Has anyone else heard this??

I havent heard that.  What I  have heard is that USFA will be making and marketing the Remingtons under a contract with Remington. Alot  of the custom features available on the SAA will be available on the Remingtons.

Yep! You can do a search in this forum (USFA) for Remington, and all kinds of stuff will come up!

I guess it doesnt really matter either way who markets the gun if USFA is still making it.

Capt. John,

Fred Burnham's favorite arms during the 1880's here in the States was a Winchester 1873 Carbine in 44-40, an 1875 Remington with Hippo Ivory grips in 44-40, and a cut down 3 1/2" Colt SAA with Stag grips in 44-40.  It is this "Sheriff's Model" I think would be a good model for a commemorative of Fred Burnham.  It could be Blue with Case Colors, nice stag grips, and have a Black Powder frame with no ejector tube.  I can imagine it already!

From all that I have read, the Remingtons, made by USFA under contract, will bear the Remington name and will be marketed by Remington.  It will, in effect, be their gun.

Doc,
I like your choice of the 3&1/2" Sheriff's Model.  Brings to mind something I have always wondered about.  When Colt was manufacturing the original Sheriff models back in the 1800's, the most popular model by far was the 4" version, followed by the 3&1/2".  The 3" model was a distant third.  In recent years Colt has reissued the Sheriff models and, with a few rare exceptions, they have always been in the 3" configuration.  Why hasn't Colt ever reissued a significant number of the most popular version of the Sheriff's Model?  If it was the best seller back then, you would think it would be more popular today as well.  I have a 3" Colt and a 4" USFA and, fit and finish aside, the 4" USFA has much more visual appeal.

I have a 3rd gen Colt Sheriff's Model in 3" also, the grip is horrible.  The gun itself is not too bad for a 3rd gen.  It came with dual cylinders, .44-40 & .44Special.  The Sheriff's Model is an area I haven't tried yet with USFA.  This has brought me to the idea of making my next order with USFA a Sheriff's Model the way Fred had one.

Have you shot yours, and in what caliber?  That's got to be a handful in a .44-40.

Doc,
My Colt is the .44/44-40 combo as well.  I think the bulk of them were.  Don't think Colt made too many (if any at all) in .45.
My 4" USFA is a .45.  To be perfectly honest, I didn't notice much difference in recoil from my standard 4&3/4" SAA's.

Come on, People!  Somebody else must have some ideas for commemoratives that they would like to see.  What about Doc Holiday, Roy Rogers, Patton, Skeeter Skelton?  How would you design a gun for any of them?  Be imaginative!  Let's have some fun here.

USFA produces a ready made "Skeeter Skelton"model  the Rodeo.  I remember reading in Skeeter  article where he had a very beat up Colt SAA redone then sandblasted and blued. I beleive it was for "Bart Skelton"

I wish someone would put all of his articles in book form.  Yes I have the two hardbacks but they only cover part, a small  part, of what he had written,
