Yes, they are NCOWS legal. Regardless of the Sam Colt signature they are still reproductions of firearms/conversions of the old west era...

Just a thought, weren't the 3rd generation colts at least in part made from Uberti parts?  If so, contact Dixie Gunworks, they can sell you new backstraps.  Also VTI gunparts sells those as well.

find a good gunsmith he can tig weld the script polish it down and finish them for you.

I like MoGorilla's idea.  Get new grip frames/backstraps and save the old ones so that they can be restored if desired.

You could change them to '51 Navy grip frames too, if you like Navy grips better.
