Top Punch for Rapine Mould
« on: October 26, 2006, 11:36:34 AM »
Hello,

This is my first post and I was wondering if anyone who is casting with
the Rapine 350 Grain / .512 Spener bullet mould has already figured
out which Luber sizer top punch works the best.

I appreciate any input.  I am a N-SSA Member and just starting to work
on my Armi SPort 56-50 spencer.

I also somewhat shoot cowboy but just on my own with a few friends.  We
have all the steel targets and such we just dont go to SASS shoots and the
lot.  We concentrate on more accuracy at distance with practical speed.

Thanks
RR

You know what, I misunderstood you.  :-[  You mean a top punch for your luber sizer. I was thinking bullet seater stem. I was asleep at the wheel. By the way, why not try pan lubing your bullets and then loading w/o sizing. I do & they shoot great.  ;)

Rapine will make you a nose punch if you call him.  The other option is to take a .50 cal nose punch and some epoxy.  Mix up some epoxy and fill the cavity in the nose punch.  Put a coat of wax or resizing lube on a bullet, and press it into the nose punch recess.  Be careful and get it straight. Leave it in place until the expoxy hardens, then remove.  You now have a custom fit nose punch.  If you change styles, you can do the same thing again, so pretty inexpensive this way.

See my post "Got My 56-50 Spencer Ordered, Now What?" for more about the Rapine mould, loading & shooting the 56-50 than you probably care to know.
Ain't got to where I'm going, but I'm past where I been.
