What kin I do with a peck o'plums?
« on: September 14, 2006, 01:16:39 PM »
Mogorilla, I printed your fruit post but I need more information, and mebbe Del or anyone else might help me out too.

I was gifted a passel of small purple plums, which are good eatin' as they are and better with a bit of sugar, like ya dip a strawberry.  I'd like to make some pies or cobblers or something and freeze what I can't eat right away.  I bake cookies and hold my own with reg'lar cookin' and used to make pie crust, but don't know how to prepare or cook plums.  Do they need peeling?  Boiling up like jam?  (yeah, I know enough to remove the pits).

All my dutch ovens are used for smelting wheelweights so I'd like to use Discouraging Word's regular oven.  All help appreciated - I figure they'll last a few more days in my refrigerator.

TIA,

Peel em or not, they make great pies and cobblers.  Use em in any jam recipe or freeze them like any fruit.  (Blanched first)  Blanching will also make them easier to peel if you want.

I recommend plum cobbler. Get a peach cobbler recipe and sub plums fer the peaches.
