Buckles
« on: August 26, 2006, 06:33:31 AM »
Where can you get some good belt buckles.  Most of the leather craft places i have seen don;t seem to carry any nice buckles.  hate to be a pain with all my questions. But you got to learn some how.

I get most of mine from Siegel of California www.siegelofca.com - they have them in either solid or nickel plate over solid brass -

As I recall, doesn't Siegel have those clip-corner ones that look period correct? I got a few left still but when they're gone, I'll need to restock.

Howdy Will - yep and unlike the ones from LF/Tandy they are as noted solid brass or nickel over brass. They also have some nice square center bar buckles that I like to use for chaps or on early gun belts.........as well as lots of other goodies......

The Siegel number for the 1.5" clip corner buckles is #1900 in either brass or nickel plate - price is $2.60 each or buy a box of 25 @ $2.25 each

The square center bar buckles are #899 - in brass or nickel and come in sizes 1.25", 1.5", or 1.75" = prices range from $1.31 to $2.04 each or bxes of 25 at $1.14 to $1.77

Weaver was selling the 1900 solid brass 1 1/2" for $1.17 in their overstock catalog.  They also list this buckle as available in 1 1/4"SB-$1.08, 1 1/4"CB-$.96 and 1 1/4"NB-$1.09.  Prices good through Dec31,06 or while supplies last.  They had the buckles but were out of many hardware items I wanted.  I prefer the NB but did get a stack of the solid brass at this price.

What is the order amount required to avoid the Siegal "minumum order charge?"  I tried to order 4 of the clipped corner buckles and they wanted another $14.95.....

Howdy Little Al - minimum order is $25.00 plus shipping - if your order is over $75.00 shipping is free......

BTW - I get their 3/4 oz commercail sides for making cartridge loops and for lininng. While I generally do not like to order imported hides these have been very good, especially for the price. Their chap hides of various types are also good.......

This is a clip-corner buckle. I like to use these on my period belts.

I haven't seen any nickel plated ones recently but I found this brass one with a search: http://www.riverjunction.com/catalog/buttons/beltbuckles.html They don't specify what the size is so you'd have to call them for that.

The clip corner and squared buckles you seek are available through Landwerlen Leather Co. in Indianapolis. They are a very old supplier to the leather/cobbler trade and have damn near everything. Usually very reasonable on prices as well.

No website, but their number is 317-636-8300.

BTW, if you call, please don't carry on about how reasonable their prices are. I'd like to see them stay that way.

Siegel usually carries the clip corner in both brass and nickel, but are currently out of stock and are looking for a new supplier.
Montana Leather has them for $5.50 each #1587
