Custom Barrel Lengths
« on: August 23, 2006, 05:41:00 PM »
Way back when, when USFA was getting started, the offered a variety of barrel lengths not currently listed.  Among them 10 & 12 inch barrels.  Does anyone know if you can still custom order a SAA with a 10" barrel?  Banjoman???  Would love to have one just because it would be somewhat unique.

I'd like a 5" Rodeo in .45, a la Wyatt Earp.   :)

Wyatt Earp had a 5" SAA?  Doesn't seem like there would be much of an advantage over the standard 4 & 3/4".

Yep! Got a pic of one I will post when I dig it out this weekend. And I saw 2 other documented ones also, one in a friend's gunshop(got to handle that one), and the other in a musem at Rawhide (Old West tourist attraction out here in Scottsdale), back in the 80s.

Found the pic this morming and scanned it.

I think this would be a good'un for USFA to make a tribute or signature model of. They've got a Custer gun, why not an Earp gun??

Thanks Rawhide.  One of my favorite quotes came from Wyatt Earp.  "The secret to gunfighting is learning how to take you time in a hurry."

Back in the early, early days, we'd get supplied with additional barrel lengths primarily 10" and 16".     Today we make our barrels from 36" barrel sytock in the three most popular lengths.  We can do other than standard barrel lengths but in most cases, each will be done by hand which will add to the time and expense of the gun.   If there was demand for a different length barrel, we would certainly entertain running a quantity lot.
