My $40.00 Euroarms 1858 comes home.
« on: August 04, 2006, 08:31:53 PM »
My Euroarms 1858 came home today  !

I cleaned up the rust. Checked the nipples. Four of 6 the flash holes are rusted closed. Good news all 6 nipples came out of the cylinder. Note to self....buy new nipple wrench. It is a 1973 model and yes is an Armi San Polo. Only missing part is the main spring adjustment screw. However I put 6 caps on her and all fired  . This gun looked bad when I bought it but a little loving care and she'll be fine  !

Coulda sworn I heard a Thanks! When I put in the safe with the other Remmies!

There's nothing like saving one from the scrap heap!

My first Remington was a $50 Gunbroker "junker".  With $20 in replacement parts and some cleaning,  it is a fine shooter (pitted bore and all!).

Thanks for bringing another one back from the dead!

Got the flash holes opened up in the nipples tonight. Got a shoot tomorrow and if time allows I'll load her up after the shoot and see what happens.

The more I handle this Remmie the more I like ut!

If she`s like my 1973 Euro remmie .. the cylinder mopuths are chamfered and she won`t shave lead on a .454 ball .. but it`s a tight fit when seated ..so no problem there and it makes her my best shooter by far .

Well didn't get to shoot it today, not enough time to completley clean her out last night. Just got done taken some of the sorriest crud out of the trigger mechanism but she's good to go now ;D.

She's a sweet gun but I feel guilty I'm haven a love affair right under the Mrs. nose! :o

If that was the after picture you posted You Did Great!!!

I own a pair of 1979 Euroarms/ASP made within a day or so of each other.  I believe one is ASP and the other Euroarms. Don't know why they were marked both ways on the same assembly line.

Great save and great buy! If it is as accurate as my 1979's you will love it. it may shoot a bit high, but I expect the windage to br pretty close to right on. My 1979's just need a taller front sight to be perfect with the Kirst Conversions or the C & B cylinder.

Yep! That's after I brought it home and cleaned her up. The pic looks better than the revolver actually is. There is some minor pitting left and some scrathes and dings. As said above........honest wear.

I'm pretty sure I've decided to strip her down to the white and decide wear to go/or not from there!

Well I have antiqued a few and I have cold blued (Birchwood -Casey Super Blue) a couple and I think I prefer the cold blue as it wears really fast and then looks well used but not like an original gun. Cause none were 100 years old back then.
So either way is a good thing.

Good deal!  My most recent purchase, a 5.5" stainless Uberti 58 had to be returned, as after I got it home and started to polish up the internals I noticed that things just didn't seem to fit right; sure enough all the holes such as for the trigger guard screw, tigger, etc., had been drilled just a little bit off, and it would have never been anything but a paperweight so I got a full refund.

However, I bought a Navy Arms/Uberti model w/ 8inch barrel, made in 1972 a few months ago which came with and R&D conversion cylinder, and I am amazed at how well it shoots along with it's great condition.

So far VTI gun parts has been the best source when it comes to replacing things on my 58, and you might want to check out bigironbarrels.com for parts and services as well, plus check out the forum over there.

Of all the things I've lost over the years, it's my mind that I miss the most!
