uberti R-M plunger spring problem
« on: July 28, 2006, 04:14:46 PM »
Hello all,

I have put the Ruger plunger and springs in all my Pietta 60,61 and 51' with out any problems and they work great.

My problem is after drilling the hole in my Uberti R-M and putting the plunger in there isn't anything supporting it when it rest up against the hand. I did remove the leaf spring off of the hand.

I noticed that the hand channel is bigger then in the cap-ball revolvers and even a open top.

So do I put the spring back or make a longer plunger assy. or build up the back of the hand ?

Thank you LCR

LCR,

BTT for a pard.

Never attempted this on any of my guns....but, you're logic seems to be on the right track. Solution likely dependant on how much more plunger-length is needed. I'd be tempted to make a longer plunger from stock material first to see if it's feasible. A longer plunger would benefit from more support (length in rear, inside the frame....and a snug fit). No-harm-no foul if it don't pan out.
I'd probaby look into obtaining a spare hand (or two) before trying to build-up weld on the back of the hand. But, you have a pair of Rugers for back-up ;)

Going on vacation tomorrow..will check-back when I can for progress reports. ;D

Good luck,

Thanks Montana,

I have some pins that are 1" long that are the same dia. as the Ruger plunger that I can cut down till I get the right tension.
I would use the welding as the last resort, but I do have extra parts coming fron VTI.

See ya soon enjoy the Vacation
