Winchester 94 38-55

Hi, I need your help, I know nothing in Winchester 94 and lever gun, I'm interested in a Win 94 38-55 WCF dated 1907, the handguard is cracked, I would like to know if it's hard to find a handguard for this particular rifle, the guy want $550 CDN for it. I would take that one without too many questions, at that price!

(As long as it is otherwise in decent shape, functional, with no more than honest use showing.) 

P.S.:  I looked at the photographs, and it looks OK, but I'm not familiar with the vendor.

Before shooting it, I would take it to a gunsmith to check headspace.  Some .38-55 model 1894s might have been used with hi-speed ammo a bit too much.

Buster;  Thanks for the PM requesting more information.  Here is part of my reply, so that others may comment;

"Buster95;  You would need to take it to a gunsmith.  He would review its overall condition and functioning, plus use a headspace gauge to see if it had stretched due to use of heavy loads that were once popular.

Do you know the reputation of this vendor?  In any event, before you buy, agree on a return policy.  Tell the vendor that you wish to shoot it, and are concerned about headspace.  If it does not meet your expectations, return it.

I have brass and loading dies for the 38-55 if you need them.  Sold my 94 years ago but still have the stuff.
