Howdy,
I'm in Spencer Shooting Society, I guess I need to join STORM since I shoot a pair of Charcoal Blue Cimarron 1860 Richards-Masons in .44 Colt. One is 8" and one is 5 1/2", both with Army grips. They go well with my Henry and Spencer.

Ok, cleaned my new Navy Open Tops and had to dirty them up. I now know what they meant when they said, "The buck and roar of a 44." One should not shoot BP at twilight. Right out of the box these seem pretty good. Cocking effort and trigger pull is a little stronger than my C&B Navy, but they're new. It's done
Can I now join STORM?
I just picked up a 1872 Open Top in .44 Special and plan to shoot .44 Colt out of it. Right now I'm emptying my .44 Russian Brass through it. Another 200 .44 Russians and I'm going to use them with APP or 777.
What does the anagram S.T.O.R.M. mean?
OK, I'm in, too. Got a pair of .44 OTs to go with my 66 in .44 Spl. and my soon to be resleeved Henry in same. Man, I love them .44s! ;D
I sure like to join when I get my open tops. Man....I like this.
What does the anagram S.T.O.R.M. mean?

Is it recommended to shoot the black power cartridges in the open tops?
Thanks for the information Pard's, Do you get the same smoke from the cartridges as you do in the regular black powder gun's?CHeck out some of the CAS videos on this ste. That will answer your question. ;D
Howdy Pard's: I just ordered me a set of open top navy's in 38sp. Can hardly wait to shoot them. I shoot the old Navy's in 44 and 36. Is it recommended to shoot the black power cartridges in the open tops? And can I join this group?
Thanks
Hey, pards, if you've asked to join and haven't heard anything, look in the next thread (Riders of the STORM). They've been constantly updating the membership list there! I'm STORM #266, and just so proud to be here... 8) 8)
STORM seems to just fit my pistol. I have been shooting various Colts over the years, but few of them in SASS. A brace of Walkers, a couple of 1860's, an 1851, and a Baby Dragoon are current favorites. I am pretty sure a 1849 pocket is under the tree!
I am trying to decide on a pair of factory conversions, a purchase of some Kirst or R&D conversions, or building a set of home grown.
One day I shoot a match in the Josie Wales catagory...2 Walkers, an 1860, a conversion and a converted 1849. Heck with the rifle! ;)
I finally horse traded into a brace of 1872 Open Tops in .45 Schofield. I've also got a pair of 1851 converted with Kirst converters. I'd really like to join this outfit.
I would greatly appreciate being added to the rolls.
Thank ye kindly, Athena Jake Elder

Hello,
I just watched "The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly" for the upteenth time and loved it as usual. But I have always loved that 1851 Navy that Clint Eastwood used in the movie that took cartridges. I wish I had one.

Howdy,
If you'll have me I'd like to join STORM. I'm a hobby gunsmith, engraver and wood carver. I'm here because I live to shoot my handguns on a regular basis and my favorite one to shoot is my 1860 Army (I kind of like my S&W Model 41 .22 target pistol as well).

Hey Fingers,
I'm sure if you've been a good boy Rio will approve you as your Christmas present from STORM.
I didn't realize that your '61s were your main match guns, That's what I used use and I must say they are still probably my all time favorites for looks. They rarely get used these days. I have been shooting '60s for the last 3 years. Do your '61s have the silver plated grip frames?
Have a great Christmas,

Just received and email from the Marshal about this forum the other day. Good to see so many others shouting the Open Tops and Conversions. I have not seen any others in my area shooting them. I shoot an Open top and a RM 1860 Army in 44Colt with my 66 Yellowboy in 44-40. I not in the sport for the speed, I am in for the fun of shooting and trying to be period correct. I just purchased the RM Army from Marshal a couple of weeks ago and shot it for the first time this past Sunday in a monthly shoot. I shoots real sweet. Shot my 66 for the first time also. Not sure if it was the new guns, but I shot with a lot less misses then previous shoots. I was borrowing a rifle and my second gun was an Uberti Cattleman in 45 with 51/2 barrel. I was missing more with the 45 then my Open top so I would say this was some of the difference. I was hoping that R&D would have come out with the conversion kit to make a Richards 1860 Army conversion, but it was going to take longer than expected so I went with the RM 60 Army. Someday, hopefully maybe Uberti/Beretta will come out with a good quality Richards. Looking forward in being able to come to this forum to read interesting things about these type of gun. Thanks to those you put this together.Started October 5 2005.....!!!!!Where the he double hockysticks was I??? Blind as a bat with blinders on to boot, I missed this topic. May I beg your pardon for missing you and further quest your permission to join your little discussion. I have two 1872 opentops. Both are Uberti's imported by Stoeger, in the .45 Colt chambering. The first one I bought was wearing a 4 3/4 inch barrel , It is my concealed carry gun. The second one has the 5 1/2 inch barrel . It is my Long Range shooter. Both guns buck and bellar with a caseload Black stuff or a healthy dose of Tite Group. Both seem to be every bit as accurate as any of the Vaqueros that I also use for CAS. I really do on occasion use the short barrel open top for concealed carry as I have been graced with my state government's "PERMISSION" (isn't it wonderful of them) to carry a gun hidden. For carry I exchange the 250 grain lead round nose flat points for hornady XTPs and consider myself well armed. Oh and by the way, did I mention that Opentops are the coolest guns on the fireing line,IMHO! ::)
Forgot to mention, I have a magazine with an article about Gren's conversions. Probably what got me interested in these type of guns.

Hello all. I'm a brand new greenhorn 1860 cap and ball shooter. I don't think I'll ever touch my 1911A1 again! LMAO
I would sure appreciate being allowed to join you fellows and learn more about the art of maintaining and using these awesome and beautiful examples of 19th century technology.
Hello the fire!
Put my Money Order in the Pony Express riders hand this afternoon and I will be getting an Army Open Top in .44 Colt! ;D ;D ;D I'm gonna shoot .44 Russian in it and that will go with my 1860 Henry which now shoots .44 Russians!!! My NEW NCOWS guns. I'll be in the Originals class with a persona of an Army Engineer officer with private purchase guns in 1873. I can hardly wait to get my OT and git'r shooting. 18 gr of Holy Black and a Big Lube boolit - Fire - Smoke - BOOOOOM!! :o ::) ;D ;D
SIGN ME UP!! Please, oh Please!! ;D
Jin me up! I got a great deal on pistolas and brass so I am shootin a pair of 1872's in .44 Colt. You can stuff about 24 gr of FFg in them with a 200 gr Big Lube boolit that makes a satisfying clang on steel. What a great pointing pistol and a hoot to shoot!

HowDee! Please sign me up. Have been shootin cap and ball since 1972 with the purchase of a '51 Colt in 44 caliber-it met a tragic end in a fire. Currently shoot a '51 Colt Navy in 36, an 1860 Colt Army and 2nd Model Dragoon, both 44's, and a '72 Open Top in 44(shoot black out it in 44 Colt and smokeless in 44 Special). Love shootin the "old timers", if more people who shoot firearms would give em a try, willing to bet that they'd be hooked, if they could endure the clean-up after the shootin.
Boiilerplatejackson wishes to join STORM . I own a Navy Arms 51 conversion made by Armi San Marcos, and an 1860 army with
R & D Conversion. About 8 colt percussion variations.
I've got a brace of 1860's and an 1851 that I adore. Will that get me in?

Thank's very much for the Welcome ........Dusty.
Thank You Much. I have wanted one of the conversions before they ever made a replica . Dont know why I waited so long . If it's like others I'll prob . be Conversion poor in a few wks. What the heck .Glad to be here with you all. Post a pic. when my waiting is over .....Dusty.
Same here, wanted one since my dad took me to a gun show and explained them to me about 4.5 decades ago. I just think the lines of the 1860 are so elegant; but, the cap and ball revolvers, while a hoot, are meant for people with more patience than I myself am in possession of.
Really want an open top .45 next.
;D Thought i'd see ifn i qualify. Been shootin Colts open top pattern revolvers since way back in 85. Back then ya ordered Dixie gunworks catalog, read it front to back and got started. lol.
Nowadays i shoot a Cimmaron 1872 in 38 sp , an ASM 1860 conversion in 38 sp. an ASM 1860 and an Uberti Walker.along with some of Col Colts later offerings.
