Afternoon all.

Currently 105, expected to hit 110.  They're saying we might get a little rain later this evening.

The big fire over the hill got bigger.  When I went to bed last night it was 6100 acres.  When I got up it was 20,000.  As of the press conference half an hour ago, it's at 32,000.  The city of Redding has had all of it's Western outskirts evacuated, and the edge of town itself has become a fire line to hopefully keep the city from burning.
The fire burned a wireless comm site overnight, so three FM broadcast transmitters, three internet provider towers and one cell tower are puddles of metal on the mountain top now.  It also burned two high voltage power line towers.  Apparently an entire boating marina burned at the lake, too.
Up here we're not in any danger from fire, but we have our own associated problems.  The highway has been closed all week, and there's no projects open date.  The three gas stations in town are out of regular and low on everything else. The grocery stores are low on everything, too. We have back roads and such to get things in, but those are all either 4x4 only, or restricted to vehicles under 35 feet.
So, things are getting a little uncomfortable around here, but me and mine are doing fine.

Good luck, Roo.

Evening all.

Here in my native Trinity county things are fine.  Still no gas or food truck delivery, but we're not in danger.  The city of Redding over the hill on the other hand, is in deep doodie.

Entire neighborhoods are burning, and the fire is jumping containment lines.  There are at least a dozen people in the burn ward at the two hospitals, but one hospital is evacuating the ICU and Maternity departments preemptively.  I know at least a half dozen people who have had their properties burned, and at least two who lost homes.
They pulled all units off of containment efforts and have them pulling people out.  Still, there are people trapped in areas.

I'm on standby with SAR to go down and assist, but we haven't been paged yet, since the highway asphalt is on fire.

This is going to be a long night.

Afternoon all.

98 right now, headed for 115 again.  The very us blanketed in smoke, which has visibility down to about a mile.  Speaking of fire...

Current acreage is 45,000, with 65 homes destroyed and 55 damaged, plus uncounted outbuildings and travel trailers.  Also two fatalities: a private bulldozer operator and a Redding City Fireman.
At least three people I know have lost their homes, while several more are expecting to in the next 24 hours.  The fire has practically no containment (3%) and wind is expected to pick up again around 14:00.

Morning all.

Currently at 76, headed for 110.

The whole county lost power yesterday for about 16 hours.  Since the fire took out the high voltage lines between Trinity Dam and Shasta County, Trinity has been operating as an island, disconnected from the main grid.  Naturally, a tree had to fall across the lines between the dam and the substation.  :-\  They got it back up last night.

The fire doubled in size again last night.  Now at 81,000 acres.  Cal Fire is saying total structures lost is approximately 500, with almost as many damaged.

Good news on my Health Insurance.  No cost to me. However some deductible expenceses.  Overall good deal.  Will be hearing about Suzannes and my stepson on Monday.

Hotter than heck here today, no rain in sight.

Evening all.

That's good news, Roo.  Glad it all worked out.

Currently 105, 10-15mph winds.

The fire has crossed the county line into Trinity, and half of the town of Lewiston is under mandatory evacuation, while the other half is under advisory.  I live about ten miles west of Lewiston.

Morning all.

65 and Smokey.  The fire turned overnight and started burning this way.  I'm still safe, with over ten miles to spare, but the way this fire is behaving, one never can tell.  Current size is 89,000 acres.

We lost power again at 4am.  Not sure of the cause, but they hope to have it back on before it gets hot.
