Macon,

When you write .  .  .  "I followed his footsteps"  .  .  .  would you go into more detail as to what you meant by "his footsteps"?

Might be helpful to others with a .45 Schofield Spencer.

Spencer Shooting Society / Reproduction Spencers in .45

Howdy all
I have just been wondering how many of us have a reproduction Spencer in .45 Colt or .45 Schofield? Also.....if you do, are you having feeding problems? If you have read my latest post, you know I was about at my wits end with my Cimarron in .45 Colt. No matter what I did or how I worked the lever it was 85% reliable feeding at best. Then I came across Johnson Barr's post in reference to his .44 Russian feeding problems and how a good bullet mold restored his faith in his Spencer. I followed his footsteps and ordered a custom mold from Tom at Accurate Molds and my carbine is now 100% reliable. The difference is night & day. Just thought this might help someone else.

You are 100% correct about that. I am so thankful that you told how a correct bullet had cured yours! I was at the point of near giving up and now it is a joy to own & shoot.
Thank you, Sir.

The bullet profile makes all the difference. Made my .44 Russian chambered carbine a pure pleasure to take to a match. Will be my 'take to' for the Grand Muster this June at Sargent, Nebraska. Nothin' better than a happy shooter, eh Alan? ;D

Another trick is to slather BP lube over the chambers mouths before shooting a la percussion style.

I will be shooting APP loads in my .44 Russian First Model No. 3 at a Black Powder night shoot on Friday.  They lack the bushing, just as the Schofields do.  Ill let you know how it goes.

Gtbpappy,

Sorry, no serial #s even close to your 24281  .  .  . nearest one is 24,477, a Spencer Carbine issued to Company L, 2nd New York Volunteer Cavalry in March of 1865.

Hope this helps.  Just curious, how many Spencers do you own?  We've done this before, the search of serial #s, that is?

Entertaining read 1st person account  :),,, Prof

I endevour to entertain!

After all, it IS a game.
And we were encouraged to maintain costume & personna

One day I hope to get my pedlars’ cart together… all the bits are in the new workshop…. Somewhere… under Mrs Marvels boxes of yarn and cloth….

Howvere it may no longer be worth the bother since all the clubs but one have dried up around me!

“Used to be” there were 4 or 5 Different clubs offering 2 to 3 weekend shoots per month, ~ 1/2 hr away!

Since “the troubles” and the demise of SASS there is now only one, an hour away, offering 1 or 2 shoots per month.
And they want to start at 8 am.
And then all pack up and run away home.

Shoot, they finish before I wake up these days 😫😢

And I will never see a COWS group within 3 hours of me.

Oddly, there “was” a group that was trying to negotiate with “the founders” over the entire “foundes ranch”.
That fell thru.
Now the whole shebang is up for sale thru a ranch broker for less than half the original asking price.
Still no takers.

But the neighbors are happier now that .50 cal mg and small cannon are no longer going off….
