Hi

Interesting design in that you folded on the muzzle end.  I've never seen a holster designed that way, but since you're making a pancake that works well.

FWIW, I've been bested by a shooter with an original Trapdoor.  They can be very accurate.  He was shooting my 400g Big Lube® bullet.  The bullet has two Big Lube® lube groves.  His rifle ran the whole course without any need for cleaning.  The fouling remained soft and was easily removed with a spritz of Moosemilk and a tug of a boresnake.  I was humbled with my 45-70 Remington roller and my 45-70 500g Big Lube® bullets.  Perhaps it's my old eyes. . .

A post-1940 Officer wore what the EM wore - straight-issued M1916 hip holster, web magazine pouches and the rest - many tracked down an M3 shoulder holster, but that was that.

There was no difference in equipment issue.

Scouts Out!

Thanks!

We are planning a "Battle of the Bulge" shoot this winter and I thought I'd dress the part. Gonna shoot my Garand, of course, and watch the brass melt into the snow .....

I just sold my last .455, a well preserved MK VI made by Enfield in 1924. Only 4000 made before the Brits went to the .38 S&W cartridge.

It shot miserably with 265 HB Webley bullets cast from an RCBS mould, the bullets tumbling. It shot well with was the 230 gr RN for the .45 ACP sized .452.

Maybe the brits wanted the bullets to tumble to increase the stopping power of the weak .455 load.

Not so. IPSC requires the ability to hit targets for score out to 40m. Further, it has a power factor that is actually enforced at Qualifiers at the provincial and national levels.
It can also require you to shoot kneeling and/or prone. It's still part of the Black Badge Course, arguably the best handgun training a civilian can access.

There was a time when most of us in CAS shot REAL loads in calibres that started with the number '4'; the era of one gun.

Our club as moved from CAS while using various old west props, scenarios and targets within SASS standards to no old west props, no scenarios and targets so close that you can spit on them.  It is now set up so the gamers can try for a sub 20 second stage.  We went from CAS to IPSIC in cowboy clothes in one shooting season.

While I'm not fond of summers in south Texas, at least we get to shoot year-round.  It does place continual demands on casting and loading, though.  Which is a good reason to spend time in the man cave and avoid the TV my wife keeps going 24/7.

Gunsmithing / Re: Stabilizing Buffalo horn

Hi

Personal opinion, but I tried to use Buffalo Horn on a couple of Green River blades and it warped during the 6 months I had them laying around.  I ended up using Black Micarta (I'm pretty sure anyway).  Looked VERY similar and didn't warp.  Whatever I used, I got from Jantz Supply.

Just my $0.02 and worth half that.
