I remember one time when my Dad got stuck on his thumb by a catfish. He got sick as a dog.  Only way I like Catfish is dead and deep fried with tartar sauce.

them dang catfish spines hurt,  sting fer awhile,  saw a friend step on one once, he had his shoes off in the boat, got him right in the arch of foot.  makes me cringe to think of it.
My Dad and Uncle showed me the cleaning tenequic on Crappie and Catfish, Crappie fillet em and Catfish, just a slit around the head and skin him in a heartbeat. nowdays I fillet the catfish too. works just as good as the Crappie.
We done it for Dixie,  nothing else

Lkes around here would have better fishin' if they quit killin' off the carp and bullheads and tryin' to stock fish that ain't fit for these dang deep swamps that keep the water from floodin' town. ;D  BTW carp on an ultra light can be fun.

Cuzzin' had a Lonestar boat for awhile, 16 foot with a 12 hp, still get ya anywhere in these lakes in a few minutes. :)

Only boat I ever owned was a 17 foot flat bottom canoe, hauled it on the roof rack of a VW Beetle, tied it off on the bumpers, dang thing was about 3 feet longer than the car. ;D

Best places to fish in these lakes are in the feeder creeks anyway, could get up there with it no problem.

Thoe aluminum bosts were light and easy to load and unload if you were by yourself.  Best boat I ever had was a 16 ft. Lone Star with a 25 horse Merc.  No steering wheel, just a tiller.

Back in the day (late 70's early 80's) when I went by myself I still just picked that canoe up by myself and put it on and off.  Did have to stop and pick up a couple a hunks of that Wisconsion red granite that the ice drug in and put it in the front when I was by myself, worked better. ;D
