Lever action help
« on: October 18, 2010, 09:55:27 PM »
Am looking at getting back into SASS after an enforced hiatus and, then, a dalliance with those evil black rifles. Am going to get a Rossi 92 but would like to know the typical round count for a stage for the lever action. The local toy store has a forlorn Rossi .45 Carbine that they've discounted but it only holds 8+1.

Here is a link to Rossi's site that gives the specs & pix: http://tinyurl.com/26nu9vk Looks like a cracker jack good bed side companion to knock back at the bumps in the night and, also, bust Mr. Boar's chops out in the brush. But wonder if there is still the 10 round lever action stages for Wild Bunch.

If 10 rounds are needed, then I'm going with this http://tinyurl.com/2crujt2. Any input other than I'm crazy(and the wife has already told me that)?

Respectfully,

As noted, you'll want something that holds at least 10 rounds.

If you are going for a .45 rifle, you are headed in the right direction.  (SASS's official WB rules dictate your rifle should be .40 cal or larger).

Might there be a slim chance that the Rossi carbine will hold 10 rounds of .45 Schofield ammo?

Most Model 92 carbines with a 20 inch barrel will hold 10 rounds. The trapper length barrels will not.

I am not sure the bigger rim of a Schoefield will chamber properly.

I have one of this model, it did not handle Schofields.  The rim size is the problem.  I finally got it to feed through the action, the hole in the frame had to be opened where the magazine fits against the frame.  The cartridge stop had to be trimmed and I am still working on the extractor and bolt.  But with .45 Colt it is one accurate rifle at 200 yards.
