I'm guessing you meant .38 instead of .35 ?  So you are going to re-chamber the cylinder and replace the barrel with a 44-40 barrel?

Finally got a Cimarron Frontier .35 by Pietta to convert to .44 Special.  It does have a few sharp edges that need stoning, otherwise a very nice pistol.  I can see why people like Pietta SAA's!

Jahoody has very good pictures of what is and is not USFA (correctly abbreviated this time, HA HA).  The two photos are the loading gate cut-outs for Uberti's and USFA's.  This is also the third (3rd) sticky above in the USFA CSS Forum section.

 Speed your 'play' problem is not unusual as even original S&W top breaks had this problem. So how did the S&W factory solve this problem?

 I've spent a lot of time with original No.2 frame SA's and DA's. More parts than you would imagine are interchangeable even with productions dates 40 years apart. The factory adjustment was the shaft diameter of the barrel latch screw. I have measured no less than 4 different shaft diameters on the No. 2 frame top breaks that I have. That difference is the adjustment between the barrel latch/rear sight and the barrel latch lugs on the frame. Smaller shaft diameters make the lockup looser and the larger shaft diameters make the lockup tighter. I have no idea if Uberti offers latch screws with different shaft diameters to 'tune' the lock-up of any of the Uberti made top breaks. 

 The  posted pic is of a pair of Second Model 38 SA framed (dated to 1881 and 1883) revolvers with Third Model 38 DA 5" barrels and Fourth Model 38 DA cylinders (post 1900). The better metallurgy in the post 1900 cylinders makes the light smokeless powder loads I create much safer to shoot. Light loading is to not abuse and be more gentle on the BP frames

After you remove the cylinder, with the loading gate open and the barrel pointed away from you look down from the top with your revolver slightly tilted to the left at where the loading gate pivot stud fits into the frame and you will see either a small triangular shaped hole or a slightly larger rectangular shaped hole right where the pivot stud and frame meet. If it is rectangular shaped, then USA frame and if triangular then Italian frame.

And I agree with Coffinmaker. You have a very nice revolver to enjoy for years to come.

AAAAARRRRRRGGGGGHHHHH!   Had to cancel going to my annual match, as my wife wasill and the kids came to see her this weekend.  I'll go to a 6 stage local match on the 8th to wring them out a bit more
