Obituaries / TITUS, Corbon Keith - b. Augus...

Corbon Keith "Woodman" Titus, age 68, of Severy, Kansas, passed away on May 22, 2025 at his home.  He was born on August 19, 1956 in Wichita, Kansas, the son of Corbin and Margaret (Smith) Titus.

Corbon took pride in his work and providing for his family.  He was proud about being a third generation member of the Teamsters Union and the folks he worked with.  He enjoyed spending time outdoors, hunting, and fishing, and but he also enjoyed reading a good mystery or watching old westerns or playing poker with his friends.  He really enjoyed doing outside projects with his close friend, Robert Law.

On October 5, 2012, Corbon married Belinda K. Church.  She survives at their home.  Corbon had a great love for his family, extended family, and friends that were like family to him.  He will be deeply missed by all of them.

Including his wife, Belinda, he is survived by his children Misty (James) Crawford, Britini (Matt) Gianakon, and Breann Titus, all of Wichita, Kansas; stepchildren, Dustin Youngken, Jarred Youngken, and Michelle Youngken; his sister, Shelly (Chris) Goeckel of Milton, Kansas; special brother, Dunner Raper; six grandchildren, Triston Dewitt Titus, Caleb Dewitt Titus, Miguel Cox, Nate D. Titus, Kayla Titus, and Hailey Gianakon; two great-grandchildren, Violet and Oaklyn; nephews, Mathew Nicholson and Jesse Guthridge; blended family by choice, Ronnie and Becky Blancet, Ronnie Miller, and Albert Miller; and blended grandchildren and family, Lori Godfrey, Anthony, Colton, and Sara Hale, Skyler, Lilly, Leon, and Dustin Youngken; and Lindsey and Harland August, and Koda.  Corbon was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Jason Titus, and siblings, George, Darrell, and Margie Titus.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, June 7, 2025 at 10:30 a.m. with lunch to follow at the Milton Baptist Church, 1213 N. Sycamore Road, Milton, Kansas.  Memorials have been suggested to St. Jude's Children's Hospital and may be left with or mailed to the funeral home.  Services have been entrusted to Countryside Funeral Home, 206 E. Washington, Howard, Kansas 67349.

Total US Federal Gummit spending for 2025 is expected to be $7,000,000,000,000 [trillion, or million million]. The Gummit expects to have a 2025 budget deficit of $1,870,000,000,000, adding to the total debt.

Here is a broad-stroke 2025 budget breakdown by JP Morgan:

Interest on Debt.            $952,000,000,000   14% of budget

The Federal Gummit debt [sum of all budget deficits] is $36,214,000,000,000. It increases approximately $1,000,000,000,000 every 100 days due to debt interest and continued deficit spending.

As you see above, the interest alone on that debt is a larger line item on the 2025 budget than defense spending.

I have written essays on specific topics, one of them was fart fetish finder . And it turned out to be much more interesting than I expected. In the process, I came across a whole world where people with such preferences can find each other. I learned that there are many niche sites for such hobbies, and everyone can find their own community. I myself then came across a site where such interests can be discussed openly and without judgment. This helped me better understand how important it is to have a space where you can be yourself.

At Home

The head of DHS supports the suspension of the Right to Travel. She is using federal troops in our city streets. She is violating Habeus Corpus by locking people away without a court appearance. DHS does NOT have any delegated authority under the US Constitution. The head of DHS is committing Treason. She is not the only one.

The unconstitutional actions point in one direction, the U.S. is being led into Martial Law a step at a time. Why?

Trump's Big Beautiful Bill establishes a budget that increases the federal deficit by $2.6 trillion, on the heels of Trump campaigning on a promise of spending cuts. More government deficit spending will lead to more homeless, more unemployed, and more crime. Add to that the civil unrest from the coming military draft, and more wars without a Congressional declaration of war. The use of martial law becomes government's only option to stay in control. And a Republic becomes a Fascist State.

Abroad

The American Empire is faltering around the world. Its power is gone. Foreign countries ignore US policies and demands. They laugh at Trump (and Biden/Obama). Trump is helpless to do anything more than make idle threats and spend money (debtors' notes, really) the government does not have for armaments to use in foreign lands.

The BRICS Trade Organization, with some 150+ nations agreeing to trade internationally through it, is moving ahead with creating a gold-backed international trading currency where trading partners buy-into the gold reserves, and the Chinese Yuan is used as the medium of exchange. The US and it's SWIFT trading partners only response is the devalued, debt-ridden dollar, and a world of bluster about tariffs.

The American dollar no longer has trade value, and the rest of world knows it. The American debt, somewhere around 36 trillion dollars, is held by foreign countries with US bonds. Eighty percent of the bonds expire by 2028, and the US must issue new ones. The interest rate the US pays will raise from 2% to 5% or more, adding about one trillion a year to the US debt.

The increased interest on the debt plus foreign countries simply dumping the worthless bonds in favor of the gold-backed BRICS trading currency will crash the US economy. That could happen before Trump's term is over.

World War III is at our doorstep.

Remember Telling Campfire Circle Stories?

Lean to your right and tell the person next to you a short story, even a rumor. By the time it goes from ear to mouth to ear around the circle and comes back you may not recognize it. No telling how much it has changed.
So here I am, leaning to my right and starting a rumor that will no doubt spread through Longton in many forms.


Longton Is Going To Have A Cathouse!!

The newest Cathouse will be located at 301 Montgomery. Several of Longton's finest will be approaching the inheritor of Ron's estate, and ask that the currently abandoned property be donated for the cause.
Three questions immediately come to mind:
- What hours will the Cathouse operate?
- Will it have off-street parking?
- Who will be the Madame of the establishment?

I'm sure whomever becomes the Madame, or Manager, there will be assurances to the community of mandatory neutering and mandatory vaccinations. It could become 2020 all over again. I hope there will be assurances of some sort to control the air quality. That may best be achieved by setting limits on how many Cats are served, or placing a limit on the time a stray can stay.
Another few questions have come up. If the Cathouse organizes as a charity, will it stand to gain State or Federal subsidies? Or will it appeal for a small take of our property taxes? Maybe it could retain a Grant writer!
Will a political maelstrom occur over the fact that the homeless will be given resident status, free food, and free medical care. No . . I doubt that sex change will be an issue. But maybe euthanasia will become an issue. Our new Cathouse might even influence election year politics!
But listen up all you fellers who trap stray Cats on your property. There will no longer be a need to transport them out into the County for 'release'. Just drive by 301 Montgomery, and leave them on the porch. They'll be in the hands of folks who love them.
Three last questions. Given Cat fecundity plus a local encampment for Cat congregation, how long will it be before the population of the Cathouse is greater than Longton's human population? Will Longton be controlling Cats, or will the Cathouse eventually be out of control?

The Challenge Before Longton Residents

Historians remark that Ron Reagan once said, "Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction. We didn't pass it to our children in the bloodstream. It must be fought for, protected, and handed on for them to do the same, or one day we will spend our sunset years telling our children, and our children's children, what it was once like in the United States where men were free."

I will add to his thought in this way; today the fight is not with a foreign country, nor a foreign people, as the powers that be want you to [forever] believe. Today, our fight is against domestic tyranny. It is against U.S., State, County, and local governments that choose self-interest over serving the needs of the people.

That point will be proven by the forthcoming sewer system project that Longton is facing. The only obstacle for governments is us, is our public questioning, criticism, and demands we make on them. That is why I repeat from my first post the need for public involvement regarding what 'our' sewer system repair or upgrade should entail. Notice the word OUR. Remember that system belongs to the residents of the town, not to the State of Kansas, Incorporated. It should become what we want, it should be done how we want, and need, it done.

Here is a case in point, as the saying goes. There are construction activities of the sewer project that local labor is capable of doing, and that local equipment can do. There are even more construction activities of the alternative sewer project that I have in mind, that local equipment and labor can successfully do. Unfortunately, I can promise you that the use of local labor and equipment is very unlikely . . ah, give it less than a one half of one percent chance, even if we scream loudly, precisely, and persistently.

Why is that? The fine print legalese of the State-issued permit will require that ALL construction work [as well as design work] be completed by licensed and bonded contractors. Thank an Attorney for that! The professional engineering firm, who has been assisting City Hall, preliminarily estimated a $4,000,000.00 project as of September 2024. Since then [about 8 months] inflation has increased those costs by roughly 5%, thanks to the deficit-spending legislators and executives we vote for. Make that a $4,204,106.00 preliminary budget today . . and increasing monthly. By the time preliminary design, permit review, final design, permit review, a bid period, and the construction window have been completed that $4,000,000 estimate will be $5,000,000+ just from inflation alone, not including any design changes and/or construction obstacles and delays.

We are the fifth poorest County in Kansas. And look how the State permits will spend five million dollars on an Elk County project, AND direct 90+% of the money to leave our county for the State's licensed and bonded Corporate buddies in places like Wichita or Kansas City or Topeka. And that buddy-system means the poor counties stay poor. That is by design, not coincidence. They take our dollars of wealth and return us pennies of debt.

There is the 21st century version of the fight Ron Reagan spoke to. And not a Legislator, State regulatory bureaucrat, or a County Commissioner will side with our right to choose, and our need to participate in the design considerations and the construction. All they want is to rubber stamp the State's standard permit. Will our Mayor [regardless of who is] or our Council members [regardless of who are] speak out? Unlikely. My next post will be alternatives to that rubber stamp State permit that should receive consideration by designers and regulators.

Ramona F. Carpenter departed this life on May 7, 2025 in Eureka, Kansas.  She was born February 28, 1931 at home in Piedmont, Kansas to H.C. and Sophia (Boswell) Bland.

Ramona attended Piedmont schools and graduated from Piedmont Rural High School in 1947.  She attended college at Kansas State Teachers College in Emporia, Kansas, graduating in 1951 with a Bachelor's degree in physical education.  She taught in Cedar Point, Cottonwood Falls, Augusta, and Topeka and enjoyed the time with her students. 

Ramona married Gus Carpenter, Jr. in 1955.  They did not have children but entertained their nieces and nephews whenever opportunities arose. For several years they attended graduate school in Fort Collins, Colorado during the summers and taught public school in Kansas during the school year.  One year they traveled to Alaska in a camper and had a great adventure, spending the whole summer on the road.  While living in Topeka, they built their home in Piedmont on weekends where Ramona lived for the past 45 years.  Gus went to work at Boeing in Wichita when the house was habitable, and they left Topeka for Piedmont.  Ramona and Gus divorced in 1998.

Ramona worked in the Greenwood County Attorney's office and for the Rural Water District in the Otter Creek Township.  She served as a board member and treasurer for the Otter Creek Township, was a board member for the Watershed District, and was instrumental in raising funds for the Beaumont Community Building and starting the Beaumont Pasture Golf Tournament. She also served on the Greenwood County Farm Bureau Board and attended the Women's Educational Club and embroidered many squares for the Community Benefit quilts raffled off every year at the ice cream social.  She must have made 100 gallons of ice cream for the social over the years.  Ramona allowed her land to be used for the Governor's One Shot Turkey Shoot.  She was a good shot and was never afraid to burst out of the house with a shotgun to kill an armadillo or coyote when required.  She was a judge at the Kansas State Fair for many years.  She also volunteered at the Greenwood County Fair and received the Friend of the Fair Award.

Ramona attended the Methodist Church in Piedmont and was always willing to bring a delicious covered dish to the potluck or soup to a soup supper and worked the Fall Festival for the Piedmont and Beaumont Methodist churches.  Ramona loved animals and fed every cat that showed up at her door.  Those cats are still being fed today.  She usually had a dog or two as well.  She had a large garden for many years and canned or froze everything she could.  She made bread weekly for years and could make a tasty dish or dessert with ease.

Ramona is survived by her nephew, Mark Bland and nieces, Frances B. Furry, "Carolyn B. Willams, and Marian B. Overstreet and additional Carpenter nephews and nieces; close friend and caretaker, Arlene Edwards; and many cousins and friends.  She was preceded in death by her parents, her only sibling, Robert and wife, Leota "Penny"; ex-husband, Gus Carpenter; and his nephews, Galen Carpenter, Ken Pierce, and Greg Allen.

Cremation has been effected.  Ramona will be inurned in the Piedmont Cemetery in Piedmont, Kansas near her parents and other family members.  A memorial service will be held at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Greenwood County 4-H Foundation or to the Beaumont Community Association.  Contributions may be sent in care of Koup Family Funeral Home, P.O. Box 595, Eureka, Kansas 67045 which is overseeing arrangements.  Condolences may be left for the family online at www.koupfunerals.com

Charles Craig "Charlie" Miller, age 72, of Ponca City, Oklahoma, passed away surrounded by his family on May 6, 2025.  Born April 14, 1953 in Sedan, Kansas to Charles F. Miller and Frances Roper, Charlie spent his formative years in Winfield, Kansas before moving to Topeka, Kansas with his father. 
Charlie later dedicated his working life to the skilled trade of welding and pipefitting.  He joined Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 767/430 in 1980, switching to Local 441 in 1996. In 1979, a friend introduced Charlie to the love of his life, Judy Lukens.  They married in Arkansas City, Kansas, and together they built a life filled with love and laughter in Winfield, Kansas before moving to Ponca City six years ago to be closer to their children.

Charlie's life was rich with hobbies and passions.  He cherished motorcycle rides with Judy, relished visits with loved ones, and found joy in hunting, fishing, and metal detecting.  He was fascinated by airplanes, taking flying lessons as a young man from his uncle, Gary Roper, and he even soloed.  Charlie was a member of Christian Motorcyclists Association where he served a term as President of the Praised Riders Chapter.  Above all, Charlie cherished his family.  He leaves behind a legacy of hard work and unwavering love, laughter, and countless cherished memories.

Charlie is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Judy Miller of the home; sons, Stephen (Tam) Leftwich of Springfield, Missouri and Daniel Miller of Ponca City, Oklahoma; three grandchildren, Avery (Angela) Leftwich and Rowdy and Joslie Miller; three great-grandchildren, Atreyu, Atlas, and Alara; and his sister, Sherri Miller of Winfield, Kansas.  He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Jeff Miller and Kyle Huff.

A memorial graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 31, 2025 at Greenlawn Cemetery in Grenola, Kansas.  Memorial contributions in Charlie's name can be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital and may be left with or sent to the funeral home.  Countryside Funeral Home, 206 E. Washington, Howard, Kansas 673349 has been entrusted with arrangements.
