Mable Jo Mithcell, age 95, of Severy, Kansas, passed away June 13, 2026 at the Eureka Nursing Center in Eureka, Kansas. She was born August 29, 1930 in Fredonia, Kansas, the daughter of Bernard Adolph and Frances Mary (Hyde) Koch.

After completing high school, Mabel Jo married Harold Dean Mitchell on April 3, 1949.  That was the beginning of a 56-year journey based on love, wit, dedication, hard work, and a strong faith in God.  Mable Jo and Harold made it a point to have fun and make the most out of life, leaving lasting memories for their family.

While raising her family, Mable Jo got her CDL license to drive trucks hauling rock to help her husband with his jobs.  She enjoyed working in their yard, keeping it mowed,  raising and growing roses, and watching the hummingbirds swarm her property.  When not working, she was active with her church and was a strong member of the United Methodist Women's Club.  She enjoyed playing cards with her Bridge Club, having coffee dates with friends, sharing her faith in God, and most importantly, loving her grandchildren.

Survivors include her two children, Ivan Dean Mitchell of Chanute, Kansas and Mary Lyyn Cameron of Severy, Kansas; her siblings, George Perry Koch of Wichita, Kansas and Nina Ellen Beaudreaux of Florida; eight grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; and six great-great grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harold; and four siblings, William A. Koch, Robert Koch, Maxine Steves, and Mary Livingston.

Cremation has been requested with a graveside memorial to be held on Friday, June 26, 2026 at 10:30 a.m. at Twin Grove Cemetery in Severy, Kansas.  Memorials in her name have been suggested to the Severy United Methodist Church and may be left with or mailed to the funeral home.  Online condolences may be left at www.countrysidefh.com.  Services are under the direction of Countryside Funeral Home, 206 E. Washington, Howard, Kansas 67349.
