They are are waging jihad, imposing the most brutal and extreme ideology on the face of the earth — the sharia — and they are not the enemy.

If counting dead bodies were a measure of Obama's peace achievement, his foreign policy would be considered an unparalleled success. And it is, for the enemy.

SHANNON BREAM: And Charles, the news today, the head of Iran's atomic energy agency saying uranium enrichment is progressing and new centrifuges are being built. He calls them "a new generation of centrifuge" he says, are now under development. Does that square to you with what was negotiated in the short-term deal?
CHARLES KRAUTHAMMER: Yes. The only surprising thing is here is that the Iranians are so confident about how supine Obama is on this, is that they stick their finger in his eye and announce it publicly.

There is nothing in the agreement that stops the Iranians from producing more uranium, or from producing the machines that enrich the uranium. That was the problem at the beginning, that's what made the agreement a farce at the start. Unless you go after the uranium enrichment, unless you curtail or destroy the machines that enrich the uranium, you have done nothing to stop the progress of Iran.

So at the same time there are reports of Iran using loopholes in the agreement to get all kinds of new commerce going, we know there are Japanese, Indian, Chinese, Russian and even European concerns that are now talking with Iran about a wide range of relations. They know the sanctions have been weakened and Obama speaks as if he can turn them on at will. And he can't.

And for him to take the side of the mullahs against the Congress, if he really was serious about this, then why wouldn't he use the fact that Congress is being tough and say the Congress is the "bad cop." You go to the Iranians and say "look I'm trying to be reasonable but the Congress is out of control and they want to wreck your economy unless you shut down your program. I can't hold them back. So are you going to negotiate seriously or not?" But instead of doing that, he's arguing with the mullahs against the Congress and that shows to me a total lack of seriousness which is what the gulf Arabs and the Israelis have seen at the beginning of the process. The president is simply not serious and the Iranians know it as well.

An Antarctic rescue mission has suffered a setback after a Chinese icebreaker had to abandon its bid to free a ship stranded in sea ice.

A group of Australian scientists, explorers and tourists has been stuck on the Russian ship MV Akademik Shokalskiy since Christmas Day.

The ship, with 74 people on board, sent a distress call after becoming trapped in heavy sea ice, which has continued to expand around it over the past three days near Antarctica.

Three ice-breaking ships were sent to free the stranded vessel, located more than 1500 nautical miles south of Hobart.

China's Snow Dragon icebreaker was the first to arrive and rammed through much of the sea ice until it came within six-and-a-half nautical miles of the stranded vessel.

But in a setback to the rescue mission, the icebreaker had to turn back on Saturday after it, too, encountered heavy sea ice that threatened the ship's own safety.

"It can't break through any further," said Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) spokeswoman Andrea Hayward-Maher.

The expedition is being led by Chris Turney, "climate scientist", who has "set up a carbon refining company called Carbonscape which has developed technology to fix carbon from the atmosphere and make a host of green bi-products, helping reduce greenhouse gas levels." The purpose of the expedition is "to discover and communicate the environmental changes taking place in the south."

The metaphor just couldn't be more fitting: desperate true believers of global warming/accelerating polar ice melt now find themselves trapped by thousands of square kilometers of summertime sea ice that wasn't supposed to be there.

No picture could better symbolize and communicate the intellectual bankruptcy and disillusionment of a faithful group who refuse to believe they have been led astray. This has to be deeply embarrassing, if not outright humiliating.

It's reported here that many of the climate science boatpeople are actually from renowned media outlets, like The Guardian, who we can safely assume were onboard hoping to capture dramatic images of vast areas of open sea water, or of calving ice sheets with hundreds of tons of ice breaking off and plunging into the sea hourly. And with a little luck, maybe even some photos of a couple of drowned penguins.

New Hampshire Will Vote To Legalize Marijuana

(AP) — New Hampshire's House votes early next month whether to legalize up to 1 ounce of marijuana for recreational use for anyone age 21 and older.

Supporters propose taxing the drug when it is sold at retail at a rate of $30 per ounce and letting people grow up to six marijuana plants in a controlled environment.

State Rep. Steve Vaillancourt, a Manchester Republican supporting the bill, says the legislation is modeled after one approved by Colorado voters last year and is similar to one Washington voters passed.

"Nothing in the bill would allow anyone to drive under the influence of marijuana or any other substance. By legalizing, regulating and taxing (marijuana), society would in effect be taking the profit away from illegal operations which truly harm society," he wrote fellow representatives in support of the bill.

Vaillancourt said taxing the drug would produce millions of dollars in tax revenue. He noted that the bill would not be effective until July 1 to provide time to implement it properly.

Opponents argue marijuana is bad for people's health and would be difficult to regulate.

First Lady Michelle Obama congratulated ABC's Robin Roberts after the "Good Morning America" anchor came out as gay.

Roberts came out in a Sunday Facebook post in which she reflected on the past year, thanking her loved ones — including her "long time girlfriend, Amber" — for supporting her during her battle with *myelodysplastic syndrome.

"I am grateful for my entire family, my long time girlfriend, Amber, and friends as we prepare to celebrate a glorious new year together," Roberts wrote.

The First Lady said she is "so happy" for Roberts and her girlfriend, who "continue to make us all proud."

Nashua's Campbell Issues Apology over Duck Deaths

State Rep. David Campbell offered an apology after striking several wild ducks with his car outside a Nashua hotel last week.

Meanwhile, Nashua police are pledging an open, thorough and impartial investigation into the matter, which unfolded late the evening of Dec. 23 outside the main entrance of the Crowne Plaza Hotel.

Campbell, a Nashua Democrat, issued a statement early Sunday evening addressing controversy over the episode, which was first reported in a story that appeared in The Sunday Telegraph.

"I am deeply sorry that I accidentally ran over several wild ducks near the Crowne Plaza last Monday night," Campbell wrote. "This occurred while some people were feeding the ducks in the roadway nearby. I know it greatly upset them, as it did me. In spite of the accusations to the contrary, this was accidental, unintentional and deeply affected me then and now."

The incident was brought to light by retired U.S. Marine officer James Murphy, a Florida resident who was preparing to check into the hotel Monday evening when Campbell's car collided with what he described as a pack of about 20 ducks in the road.

After flying into Manchester airport, Murphy took a shuttle to the Crowne Plaza. A group of ducks that inhabit the hotel grounds waddled up to the main entrance when he arrived, stopping beside his luggage.

Murphy said he had just tossed the ducks some crackers when he spotted Campbell's dark sedan approaching from a side parking lot near the hotel entrance.

"All of a sudden, this 5 Series BMW comes up, it's going about 15 miles an hour, and then when he gets to the ducks, it's not like it even slowed down," Murphy said. "It just crushed all of the ducks."Murphy said he believes as many as six ducks were killed and a handful of others returned to the pond at the Crowne Plaza with apparent injuries.

Appalled by the scene, Murphy said he followed the BMW a few dozen feet down the road, took a picture of the license plate and called police.

Campbell left the scene before the officers arrived and was later questioned about the incident.

In a brief interview last week, Campbell acknowledged hitting the ducks, but declined to comment further until a police investigation into the matter concludes.

Campbell then issued a statement Sunday, explaining that he felt it was necessary to address the controversy.

Campbell wrote that he apologized to witnesses for striking the ducks, but left the area because one of those witnesses -- Murphy -- became "highly agitated and confrontational."

"He cursed, continuously yelled, and approached me in a threatening manner," Campbell wrote. "After I parked my car, his aggressive behavior and threats continued. To diffuse a situation that was becoming increasingly hostile, I walked across the parking lot to my office building."

Campbell said he reported the incident to the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department on Monday, and also spoke with the management of the Crowne Plaza. Campbell said he has cooperated fully with the Nashua police investigation.

"Once again, I extend my deepest apology to everyone involved, including the public," he wrote.

Nashua police confirmed last week that they are investigating the incident, but provided few other details.

In an email Monday, Police Chief John Seusing said the department is taking the matter seriously.

"The fact that this incident involves a state (representative) will not have any bearing on the outcome," Seusing wrote. "This incident was very troubling to us and as I mentioned it will be looked into thoroughly. At this time it is still under investigation."

Campbell, a Nashua attorney, is serving his seventh term in the House.

Attempts to find out whether the injured ducks were cared for were unsuccessful.

Representatives from the Crowne Plaza did not return a call seeking comment last week. Nashua's animal control officer was unavailable for comment Monday.

"I hit some ducks," Campbell told the newspaper. "Some people were feeding ducks on the driveway in front of the Crowne Plaza at 10 o'clock at night ... and they didn't move, and I hit some ducks."

According to the Telegraph, a retired U.S. Marine from Florida named James Murphy was feeding the ducks when Campbell's car approached.

PETA On New Hampshire Dem's Duck Killing: 'What's Next -- Mowing Down Kids?'

PETA wonders whether children might be the next victims of New Hampshire state Rep. David Campbell (D).

An official from People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals released a statement to TPM on Monday saying he wants local authorities to thoroughly investigate Campbell, who admitted to killing several ducks with his BMW after they did not move out of his way.

PETA Director of Cruelty Investigations Martin Mersereau blasted the "indifference" Campbell showed when he ran over the ducks in front of a Nashua, N.H. hotel. 

"Look Out, Look Out... those SOBitch'en Democrats are coming, driving Bimmers!!!"

"What's next—mowing down kids who don't scramble to run out of a Beemer's path?
Everyone, from the youngest child to the person holding the highest office in our country, can spare a few seconds to save animals from a gruesome and painful death," Mersereau said. "PETA trusts that Nashua authorities will follow through on their investigation—and that Nashua residents will speak out against any elected official's indifference to others' suffering."

A spokesman for the Nashua Police Department declined to comment to TPM about the case other than to describe it as an "ongoing investigation." Campbell has not responded to multiple requests for comment.

Meanwhile Naval personnel from the USS Reagan, who rushed to the aid of Fukushima after the earthquake and tsunami, many in their 20's, are suffering from thyroid, rectal, gall bladder, testicular cancers, rectal bleeding, hair loss, debilitation, etc.

They filed a law suit that was just thrown out of court by a federal judge in San Diego who stated that it was not within her authority to say whether or not the Japanese government had committed fraud about the dangers of the radiation from the Tepco plant.
