just got the powder, put together 30 rounds and I rushed outside.  shot at 25 and 50 yards in the woods with excellent results.  First time I have shot the rifle.
I used the Lee 2.2 ladle, drop tubed into Winchester brass, 200gr. Meister hard cast rnfp with Federal mag. lg. pistol primers...offhand into a 10" group.  The rifle looks like it has been shot but the fouling is nonexistent...looks like I could have shot up another couple of hundred rounds.
In the late 90's, I used Clean Shot.  I found I had to run a brush through the bore after each stage to be safe.  I have read that the Black MZ is rebranded Clean Shot(APP).  If this is true, it works a lot better now...costs a little more and is not available locally but I am very pleased with it...had not reloaded or shot any 44/40 since 2002...kinda forgot how much fun it was...and how smokey it is.
The 30" 1873 is a very accurate rifle...I love the long sighting plane
I apologize to the "real" black powder purists out there but, using Black MZ lowers the reloading cost significantly by allowing the use of a bullet lubed for smokeless rounds...like 500 for the cost of 100 SPG lubed
As I recall, the Clean Shot was not so clean and the Goex didn't make that much of a mess so, I would probably have kept using real black if availability had not changed and Meister had continued to sell their 200 gr 428 sized SPG lubed bullets thru Cabela's.
I will try Badman's red lubed bullets and real black one of these days if I don't sell the Uberti and start over with a Sharps of some kind
