My wife and I watched this one tonight.  I was impressed that they did not arm everybody with repeating rifles (Winchesters) the way most westerns do.  I think I only saw like 3 repeaters the whole movie. 

The soldiers and just about all the Indians were armed with, I think, Springfield Trapdoor carbines or rifles.   Cochise (I think) was armed with a rolling block rifle of some kind.

It is hard to see in the few frames you can see it, but, I believe the rifle Jeff Chandler (Cochise) is carrying a Wesson, single shot breech loading, .44 cal. rim fire carbine.

Blair you are correct. It is a Frank Wesson so called two trigger tilt breech carbine. The forward 'trigger' is actually the barrel lug/frame release. As the Wesson tilt breech rifles made their way through history; succeeding family ownership, we now know them as Harrington & Richardson handi-guns.

I just viewed the movie, after posting my last message.
The firearm is indeed a Wesson!
The info and books I have are only for US purchased Military firearms, and the rifle/carbine in the movie fallows the same shape and design as the Civil War carbine I mentioned.
Exception: The one in the movie has silver inlets in the butt stock that wont be found on or in the Military arms.
I can assure you... this weapon is not an 1885 High Wall Winchester.
