I have the option of picking up a ASM  brass framed 1860 from a friend for $100. It has been ingraved and the frame has been silver plated. The only issue is the thing has been used as a cap gun, never fired live and it is not indexing.  I know that ASM has been out of business for sometime now, but I was wondering if Pietta parts could be used to remedy the issue or is it best to pass on this project.

I would pass on a brass framed ASM if you intend to shoot it.  If it is a wall hanger it should be fine.  By the time you fix the ASM you could probably buy a new steel frame Pietta 1860 Army for about the same money.

Here! Here!!  Pettifogger speaks the truth.  There is no source for ASM parts other than an ASM parts gun.  As Pettifogger has said by the time you get it to work right (if ever) you'll have enough time and money invested to buy a new steel frame 1860.  A brass frame gun is better served over a mantle piece.

I forgot, ASM parts mostly don't fit ASM guns.  Using parts from other manufactures will be a crap shoot.  Each part you change will require a change of another part.
