Major:

One to add for review is the new Cimarron "Titan".

It's built on the Bond "Texas Defender" frame, so it should likely be disapproved.

Thanks ..to be fair though, it was not reviewed ( however if it's on the Texas Defender frame & barrel combo you are correct)

Been wondering what was on the approved list, good thing I passed on a Cobra big bore.
Still wish one would have been approved that could be had in .32 H&R Mag. so I could shoot my .32 S&W loads in it.

Mr McCandles,

If you have .32 S&W Rounds that you need to get rid of, I would be happy to take them off your hands and use them in my little S&W pocket pistol .... *S*

TTFN,

Mr. Ellis:
These are the same rounds I use in my Millington converted 1849 Colt's pocket pistol and Sierra Sue's S&W 1 1/2 .32 center fire.
I was hoping one of the currently produced derringer models that could be purchased in .32HR mag. (ie. Cobra big bore/Cimarron) would have been approved. I do understand the reason of turning the Cobra down was their size being larger than the Remington derringer of our time period.

Major,
I did not bring a Titan, though I have one, simply because it is a Cobra clone of the Bond Texas Defender.  What make it different is the barrels are rounded rather than slab sided, and it has a ventilated rib.  Since the kiss of death was the ventilated rib, I just sort of lumped it in with the rest of the Cobras.  Here are pictures of the Titan.

I also forgot to bring this Uberti.  I would suspect it would be fine, since it is the same size as the other 38 caliber ones we reviewed.  But your call with the AC.

Wow, that Uberti is calling my name . I bet that would have been on the approved list.
Are they still available?

Thanks Brian, I'll get to work on the Uberti  :)

The Titan is on the Disapproved list, just not by the Titan name (as it were )

Rick,
The date code on that derringer (XVII) indicates it was made in 1961.  They have not been made in a very long time.  Once in a blue moon you will find one on the gun auction sites.  I had this one customized by having the barrel stripped, engraved, then charcoal blued.  Then I carved the ivory grips and installed them.  I should send the trigger, hammer, and barrel release out to be charcoal blued as well.  If I find another on line, I will probably buy it.  I have not been too anxious to shoot this one after I had it all dressed up.

Back when the derringer issue was up for a vote, I did quite a bit of research on the background of these replicas.  To help in your hunt:

Uberti initially offered these in the '60's and the model was called a "Maverick" derringer.  They were sold concurrently as Uberti's C. Sharps Pepperbox replicas.

At some point (likely early 70's),  The Tooling was sold to a California company called I.A.R.  The continued to offer the same derringer, but the maker's stamp says "I.A.R., San Juan Cap."  and "Made in USA".

So the key words for your search are "I.A.R."  "Uberti" and "Maverick".

Of all the replica's I reviewed, these Uberti guns were the prettiest.   The Uberti  ones came blued and with case hardened parts.  A real jem if you can find one.

Actually, the earliest of the Uberti Derringers were marked "NEW DERRINGER" as the engraved one above is.  Later they changed the name to Maverick, then IAR.  Funny, I just got notified this morning by GunBroker of a Uberti Derringer for sale.

If a person were to come up with a Uberti/IAR derringer of this type would be allowed to shoot it prior to approval?

John William McCandles take note ....

I have reviewed the (38cal) Uberti ( with my Authenticity Committee )
Today, I handled one belonging to a SASS shooter ( whom BTW has a brief Case size gun tote with 11 models including
two Remington and two UMC models , and a Uberti Sharps 4 barrel model....

I stand ready to approve it for NCOWS use pending Congress vote ....

Thanks Major, I'll keep that in mind while I'm a lookin'. Was hoping for approval of something that could be had in .32S&W. But loading a few .38's won't be so bad as I need .38spl. /.357mag dies to load for my carry pistol anyway.
