Azoom Problem

Have always used AZoom snap caps in all my wheelguns, but just noticed that the case heads on my .45 LC caps were becoming flatter and flatter - seems that the impact of the firing pin has driven them against the chamber mouth with sufficient energy to actually swage the aluminum case heads into the chamber mouth; enough to actually create an aluminum film over the back of the cylinder and make the face of the cylinder chamber slightly rough and uneven.  I'm done with anodized alumiinum - I realize it's softer than steel, but it's certainly harder than brass so my future snap caps will be spent cases...warning to all... :(

Colt and USFA seems to both like to use the rear leaf springs from a 1949 Ford as a mainspring. Put in a lighter mainspring from Wolff Springs. Problem solved! ;)

Doc,
Welcome to the forum!  Haven't experienced that problem yet with my wheel gun Azooms but have noticed that the Azooms I use in my .45 acp wear quite quickly.  Extractor wears away the rims in no time, leaving little flakes of aluminum behind.  They must be using a very soft grade of aluminum.

Thanks Guys!  Agree about the '49 Ford leaf springs; that baby could punch through a Nitro Express primer!  I used to use AZooms in my 1911s also; found some Traditions heavy duty .45 acp aluminum caps (not the plastic doobies) with brass spring-loaded primers that work great; haven't chewed 'em up yet with any of my semi-autos...great forum BTW...
