Top break chamfering???'s

Ok i now have a pair of these Uberti top breaks in.38 with 7 inch barrels. Both of them seem to be spitting lead out of the sides, they index fine as far as the eye can tell , but i suspect the bullet is shaved a little as it leaves. It appears there is no chamfer to the barrel at all. I just ordered the kit to put an 11 degree chamfer to it.

My question is; has any one else done this or experienced the lead spitting??

Yup. My Laramie didn't appear to have a forcing cone at all, and spit lead like a fiend. It is now with gunsmith Alex Hamilton having that remedied, and I am having him remove the front sight pin as well. My gun shoots WAY high with all loads tested, so I am going to replace the stock front sight with a taller one made from a Buffalo Nickle.

I have found the top-breaks to spit lead even with a decent forcing cone. I believe some of the cylinder gap debris may be bouncing off the hinge and coming back.

Got the brownells kit and did it to both Schofield's. No more lead spitting, groups are also tighter.took about 5 min for each, very easy kit to use.

Do you have a part number for the brownells kit, this may be something I need to do to my Schofields.

Ill sell you the kit I just bought for 95.00, used it twice. once for each revolver, my others checked out ok and need no work. The price for the kit and the gauge came to 138 + shipping. It is for a .38. If you have a .45 you will need a different Chamfer tool.

It is a real easy kit to use. one schofield had to deep a throat, not much I could do about that so I just increased the throat diameter, the other one had no throat and need quite a few turns, but it does not spit lead anymore, it also tightened the groups up on both pistols.

it was well worth the money.

Sounds good but I am shooting a 44-40 so I will have to get the set up for that caliber.

Good instructions.

Then just go to brownells site and search for chamfering kits. Be sure to get the correct size for the 44-40. The basic kit did not come with a brass bushing or the throat guide. I purchased those separate.
