Uberti Schofield in .38
« on: September 28, 2008, 04:39:14 AM »
Hello, looking at buying my first pair of pistols and love the Schofield. Due to the licensing laws here in Australia I cannot buy anything above .38/.357 (unless it is .44 C&B), until I have had my license for 12months and I then apply for a commisioners permit to have a "High Calibre".

So my query is, is the Schofield worth getting in .38? My next choice is a '58 New Model Army,,,, big fan of those as well  ;D

Come next June I would be looking at buying another pair in 44.40 or .45.

Many Thanks.

The Uberti Schofields are very finely made.  .38 is extremely popular because of the decreased recoil and cheaper reloading components.  I think I would get the 5" since the 7 1/2" is fairly muzzle heavy in .38.  Also, the Schofields don't work for beans with black powder.

If you get the 44-40 make sure you have a source for brass. I don't know about what prices are where you are but 44-40 went up double in the USA. I reload all of mine. :D

Just got a pair in .38 with the 7 inch barrels, very nice I find them to be well balanced.  I also have a pair of 58 Army Conversions in .38, they are very well balanced, better than the schofields in my opinion.  I did make the mistake and get fake ivory grips for the schofield, makes it very slippery I prefer the unfinished wood ones.  As far as accuracy they both shoot low and to the left, the 58's are dead on.

Many thanks Gentlemen, I have bought a pair of '75 Remingtons (Ubereti) in .38/357 as my first guns and I will get a pair of Schofields in .45 next June.
