Hi Y'all,

I finally got a S&W Schofield Mod 2000.  Pick it up from my local FFL tomorrow.  Considering having a holster made for it so I can use it at the local shoots.

Do any of the Italians make a .45 S&W caliber?  I can shoot .45 S&W in a .45 LC cylinder can't I?

Digger:

1) Congrats.
2) I believe the .45 caliber Italian guns are in .45 LC  not .45 Schofield.
3) Absolutely, the Schofield round can be fired in the LC chamber, similar to .38 Specials in a .357 Mag chamber.

Howdy, Pard,
The Uberti Schofields have cylinders long enough to take the .45 LC, which the original Smith & Wessons and the 2000 do NOT.  You can shoot .45 Schofields in MOST .45 LC guns, but the Berretta "Laramie" (also made by Uberti) are NOT intended to handle the slightly thicker rim of the Starline .45 Schofield brass.  (That's per my personal experience and verified by Berretta!  ::)  Others with Laramies have been able to get their guns to take the thicker rims, however.  Tolerances are so close, I cannot IMAGINE WHY Berretta set the headspace specs that tight.  Virtually ALL other .45 LC guns I've tried WILL accept .45 Schofield rounds, though they may not feed reliably through some rifles.
Ride to the sound of the guns, but watch out for bushwhackers! Godspeed to all in harm's way in the defense of Freedom! God Bless America!

Hi Y'all,

I pick up a Colt .45LC in the morning.  I aim to shoot the Schofield and Colt as auxiliaries, using .45 S&W rounds to keep loading simple.  Are there any gotchas anybody is familiar with in that mix?  Is using unmatched guns done much?

Thanks,
Digger

Beans

I am using two Navy Army Schofields in .45 Colt as my main match pistols and a Marlin 1894 in .45 Colt for my main match rifle.
In all three gun the load is:

Starline Schofield brass, 185 LFN bullets and 5 grains of Trailboss, WLP primers.

I just have to watch the OAL to keep the Marlin running happy :D
