S&W Schofield 2000 Production #'s
« on: January 13, 2008, 05:01:12 PM »
Greetings!
Anyone have an idea as to how many S&W Performance Center 2000 Schofields were made? How many in 7"?  How many in 5"?  Did S&W go into this project with the idea that only a limited number would be made or were there other reasons that they stopped producing them?  I am the lucky owner of both a 7" and a 5".
Thanks in Advance,
CJF

Here are excerpts of a SASS wire discussion on this topic that I captured for my own files:

Subject - How Many S&W Performance Shop Schofields Were Made, Does anybody know?
TXRanger
Was not able to find anything on the internet. Does anybody know how many of the S&W Performance Center Model 3 Schofields were made?

Response:Sixgun Shorty
As i recall, S&W actually made about 2500 of the Schofields, discontinued totally about November, 2004. Most were 7" The 5" (both blue and nickel)were originally produced for and sold through Lew Horton's..About 200.
An even smaller number were nickel 5"(No nickel 7" were factory produced to my knowledge), and are the rarest of the S&W 2000's
S&W currently carries no stock of spare parts of any kind for the Schofield, but does provide lifetime warranty work for owners of the S&W Schofields
There is a rumor that S&W MAY re introduce the Schofield at some future date

Response: Injun Ryder:
I have one SN'd just under 2550!

According to my brand, spanky new Smith and Wesson Standard Catalog, 3rd edition, the Schofield Model of 2000 was produced from 2000-2003. Walnut grips on a carbon steel frame with a polished blue finish. 7" barrel, case hardened hammer and trigger. Serial prefix of GWS for Col. George W. Schofield. Product code 170146. Suggested retail was $1548.95. Sorry, no production quantities are given.

Now here is an interesting quote: "Schofield Model of 2000 Nickel Finish

In November 2001 the Perfomance Center made a nickel finish version with 7" barrel and shipped in the Heritage series box. "US" stamped on the butt with the serial number. Black pinned round blade front sight with "Mod. 3 Schofield 1875" on the right side, color case hammer, latch and trigger guard. Product code 170209FC. Serial number NKL0008 was our sample. Suggested retail price was $1520."

Again, no production quantities listed.

Lastly, Smith also made a Schofield Model of 2000 Wells Fargo Edition, 5" barrel. Product code 170207FC for the Nickel version, 170208FC for the blued version.

If it ain't life threatenin', it ain't worth worryin' about.
