Sure hope some of the American gun makers read on these forums and take notes .. I own 4 1858 Remingtons ..I just can`t get enough ..and i know there`s others here that have more than I .  The ROA is close .. but it`s not quite a remmie ..i`m not impressed ..i`d gladly pay 500 bucks for an American made Remington 1858 made out of todays steels like the Ruger . What a pistol it would be . Maybe some day with cowboy action being as strong as it is ...it will happen .

I'm with you on that. I'd have a pair of them, too.

I have several 58's. I FLAT LOVE them.

I must admit that I have two long barrel ROA's. They are heavy they are UGLY and I dont like them.

I did take 2nd place at Winter Range 2005 in Frontiersman with my LOOOOOONG barreled 58's. One is a Uberti with the rough finish and the other long barrel is Pietta. (I gave my very first 58 pietta. well cap and ball pistol to my son in law so I now only have 2 long barrels)
I have 8 short barrels . Some in 36 and rest in 44.

If they would make a 58 in new steel I would buy one up to 600 dollars.

The only problem I have ever had with my 58's is the bolt goes away pretty quick. I do have a supply of them with me.

I aint never won a National Match with one BUT I did come in second and I had one miss that was with my rifle.

I have not had my 58' lock up in a match. I have had my ROOGERS lock up in the Arizona State Championship (Bordertown last week)
You see some if not all ROA's  will lock up if you let yer thumb slip of the hammer before it is at full cock.
I was lucky that I only had one round in the pistol when it locked up and I handed it off. That cost me.

Again my 58's aint never locked up for any reason.

Mason i did own a Ruger Black Hawk single action back in the early 70`s chambered in 357 mag ... it locked up on me alot .. sold it after awhile ... i never did like the way it felt in hand eaither .. it was plumb clunky .
I too keep a supply of the lock up bolts for my remmies .. haven`t had to replace one yet .. but i have one that needs attion soon . ( getting a little side play )

I can't see a ROA for myself what so  ever.  Nothin' it can do that My 1858 Rems can't do exept be difficult to disasemble. Ruger done well though converting a Blackhawk into a BP Rev for those who don't care about Authentic Replicas.
But give me a Remmie any day. They are the kind accurtate, and good lookin', not a better shootin' tool to be found. I'l still take one over the ROA even with the steel they make um today. But the thought of an American made or harder steel does stir up a thought.
