I use the lee case trimmer and it cuts to SAAMI spec as far as I can tell. Never had a problem with it either.

Trimming?  I haven't ever trimmed a .45 Colt case and don't know anyone that has.  It's a straight walled case, not a high pressure bottle necked rifle case.  Pistol ammo seldom, if ever, needs trimming.

I've been reloading pistol ammo for over 35 years. Never trimmed one, ever.

As stated by others it is a straight case and shouldn't need trimming.

But if you want to check the length of case should be 1.285 and diameter is .480

at least that's what my reloading book says for 45 Colt.

I trim all new brass to the same length so the crimps are all the same and never have to trim again with straight walled cases.

I trim mine after the first loading/shooting. They seem to stay put after that.

Not quite as long, but I've been reloading for 24 years and have never trimmed a pistol case.

Howdy

Only been reloading for about ten years. Never trimmed a revolver cartridge case. When I first started reloading I started measuring a bunch of 45 Colt cases. They all fell into the tolerance for case length. After a bunch of firings, none had grown a bit. So I never trimmed any.
That’s bad business! How long do you think I’d stay in operation if it cost me money every time I pulled a job? If he’d pay me that much to stop robbing him, I’d stop robbing him.

Ya probably inherited every penny ya got!

^ This.  It makes it real easy.  Just attach it to a drill, start rolling and stick the Lee Trimmer on a wooden ball in and it shaves as needed.

BUT, I've found, as someone else has already said, the .45 Long Colt doesn't usually need much, if any, cutting.  Usually I skip the step
