Small Remington model??

A friend has a five shot Remington .36 that he tells me is called a police model, kinda like the '62 Colt.  It is a really neat little revolver that has been appreciably reduced in size and I am just dumbfounded as to why neither of the big repro makers have not added it to their line?  I would even be willing to camp out for a few days to be first in line to buy a pair!  First chance I get I want to take a camera to his house and snap some pictures BUT it will need a '58 beside it for the full reduced scale to be seen.  Anyone have these in their collection or know much on their history, were they a success or a bust?

No, it wouldn't be that one.  The Police model is the next larger size of Remmie.  Smaller than the Belt model or the Navy or Army models.  I think they are neat but the best is the Belt model which is a .36 cal six shot revolver.   That one would be great!

P.S;  Just to clarify, Remington made FIVE frame sizes; (Not an X-spurt" so bear with me.)
1. "Pocket"     .31, 5 shots, spur trigger.
2. "Police"      .36, 5 shots.
3. "Belt"         .36, 6 shots,6" bbl (I think)  Also made later in double action.
4. "Navy"        .36, 6 shots, 7.5" bbl.
5. "Army"        .44, 6 shots, 8" bbl.

I remember seeing one at a gun show once. It was a .36 with a conversion cylinder similar to the R&D, that had to be removed to reload. I think it was a six shot model, don't remember if it was a centerfire or rimfire conversion. I'd REALLY like to see one of the manufacturers make a reprpo of the Navy size Remington, not just the Army size with smaller holes like they make now. Then get an R&D cyl for .38 long Colt......

The five shot 36 Police model, anyone have a price estimate?  The gun looks to be in fair condition and functions well, though he has not test fired it.  Does it have a year model designation, such as common to most other models.

Easy ID tip on these is that the screws (hammer and trigger) go in from the left instead of the right..........

Here is a peek at one on an auction site that a pard sent to me on another forum.  Based on the price it looks like these may not be real common little guns.  I also searched the SCORRS photo site and did not see one of these there in our collectors albums so that further reinforces my opinion on scarcity.  I would think that this would be a natural for Pietta to come out with as competition for the Uberti '62, specially since Pietta dropped the ball on their '62 format.  As I understand it the "Uberti '62 is a legal  main match pistol and can be legal for Pocket Pistol also.  http://www.gunsamerica.com/979115274/Guns/Pistols/Antique/Remington_New_Model_Police_revolver_36cal_Factory_Nickel.htm
