Big Lube®LLC wins at Mississippi Fandango!
« on: October 11, 2011, 06:08:02 PM »
Howdy Pards,

The Big Lube®LLC 38-55 255 grain bullets flew true.  100% hits.  The long range lever rifle trophy is MINE. . .

The new 45SLIM bullets also flew well.  The 44SLIM bullets did also.  They did good enough to compensate for my fumbling thumbs and still bring home wood.

I know that I'm not that good, but those fabulous bullets sure make up for some of my "errors".

What was the distance and the size of the target?

All the shooters were shooting the same distance at the same targets.

Dick;  Don't praise your Big-Lube bullets too much. There may not be enough glory left over for the skilll and experience of the shooter!

At least you can say that they didn't interfere with your performance. ;D ;D

Ho Sir Charles,

I'm more and more amazed by the inherent accuracy of the 38-55 Winchester.  This gun is easy on the shoulder, light of report and far sighted to the target.  I'm happy to be able to hit well with it in spite of my aging eyes.

Dick, that was one of the best evasive side stepping answers I've read in a long time

The truth is in the shooting JB.  To learn the answers to your questions I guess you'll just have to come and shoot with us at Mississippi Fandango.  It's one of the most fun shoots in these parts and I'm sure you would enjoy shooting with us.

Comeon Dick; Answer the question.  I'd love to hear what the shoot was all about.  If it was so much fun, maybe other clubs would like to pick up a few pointers.

Might have to have the judge declare you a hostile witness! ;D ::)

OK WM,

For two bits it is worth it.  There were 18" steel targets at 150 and 220 yards.  Some were black, some were white and some were orange.  I could see the orange ones best.

I didn't have a sight setting for those odd distances, so I made an educated guess.  We only got two sighters and then we shot for record on the clock.  I hit 100% with the 38-55.

220 yards is EXACTLY Forty Rods!  Not some odd distance, a standard offhand target distance in Pope's day.

150 yards is odd;  it is 27.27r rods

All 6 shots which is a really weird number too.  Again, good shooting Dick
Might add:  we have our State match starting tomorrow.  I run the Long Range side matches, 5 events.  Last year I added Quigley, 3 shots offhand @ 300yds.  I was the only one to hit the bucket!

The Victoria Frontier Shootists have a rifle side match called THE WIGGLY.  20 pound Gas bottles on bungy cords at "odd" distances.

Maybe it should be spelled "Wuigley"

For those planning to attend THE PIG WAR on the weekend of 24 August 2012 in Victoria BC, plan on staying for the rifle matches.  They are organized by a guest member from Germany who is an ISU competitor.  He has been doing it for 20 years now, and brings a Schuetzen Konig target every year.  The events are Varied and Challenging.

BTW; Wolfgang, it is rumoured, will be the diplomatic representative of The Kaiser, who finaly gave the entire San Juan Island group to the USA. :'(
