'83 Colt Burgess rifle
« on: April 18, 2011, 01:54:07 PM »
After La Vista Bill's article in last year's "Guns of the Old West", I've had the itch for one of those Burgess replicas.

I was lucky to find one in stock at 3 B Shooting Supply this weekend.  It is a Cimarron import, .45LC, 20" octagonal barrel.

I can't say enough good things about this rifle.  It is light and very well balanced.  Out of the box, the action is buttery smooth.  Mine has some beautiful case hardening on the receiver.  The sliding loading gate sure makes loading less of a thumb busting chore.

The only thing I had done was to put an ivory bead on the front site.  Sure helps my eyes (as my eye doc says, I've got 60 year old eyes in a 42 year old chassis.)

I'll bring it to the Nationals if anybody wants to give it a run.

I read a write up on it where the Writer was saying that it won't be that popular because it can't be short stroked. That said a lot about the Writer and his philosophy of 'Cowboy Shooting'.
Yes, I do have more facial hair now.

Pancho, I've seen one at Whittakers, it was really a fine looking gun. Might like to try it in June. See you then. Tj

If I ran across one in 44-40, I'd be really tempted.

I saw a carbine version at Taylors in 44-40.  I passed since I wanted the full length rifle.

John

Just down the road from Pancho.  That's why I was harassing him about having to wait until the National.  ;D

The reason I asked is the Texas state SASS championship is next month at the Texican Rangers near Comfort.  I'll be shooting my Burgess then if you are coming, you're welcome to exercise it.
