"Scaled" Practice Targets?
« on: September 03, 2010, 08:06:19 PM »
Does anyone know of a source of "scaled" Cowboy practice targets? Or, some patterns for shorter area practice? Thanks,

Steve

The Grand Army of the Frontier, a great organization to belong to if you're interested in Victorian Military, offers several reduced scale targets for their Postal Matches on their web site.

The reduced scale copy of the Army 1885/A1 is for rifle, the Army 1885/C is suitable for pistol. At 50 yds the A1 would be the same as 100 yds sighting on the rifle. The pistol could be placed closer. Full instruction and match suggestions are on the GAF website.

As there are no fees to belong to GAF, just an interest in the military history of the era, you would find membership very rewarding. A great group of people who are eager to share their knowledge.

One simple yet effective practice meduim is a paper plate.  Common CAS rounds are 16", sometimes as small as 12".  A paper plate is 9".  Jab a stick in the ground, tape a clothespin to it, and attach a paper plate in "lollipop" fashion.  Fifteen cent practice target.
