1860 Spencer Serial #
« on: August 25, 2011, 04:58:45 PM »

Hello,

My family has been in the possession of an 1860 Spencer Carbine for the better part of 100 years.  The serial # is 25909.  Can someone possibly give me some insight on the original state & company of issuance for this number?  Thanks.

Thanks, JimBob.

I'll keep investigating.  With an extremely clear serial # and only 25909, I'm certain I'll track it down sooner or later.  I've been in possession of this Spence for almost 50 years, and it's been in the family for nearly 100 years, but it's origin in our family is unknown.  And, yes, I had relatives in the CW - on both sides.  Can't lose that way.      :)

Try tracking down what unit they were in and see if they were ever armed with Spencers.LOL The Union ones that is.Other than the SRS books there isn't much information on serial numbers and who they were issued to.
