Could I put a longer magazine spring in a Rossi 24"?
« on: May 21, 2008, 04:26:03 PM »
Just picked up a Rossi 24" 44-40 with the hexagon barrel and case hardened frame.

Was looking at it, and giving stink eye to the yellow plug magazine follower when I noticed the long cylinder of plastic at the fore end of the magazine tube that obviously keeps the magazine chambering 10 rounds.

Now I have heard of the laws limiting the number of rounds in the magazine, just playing with the idea in my head if that piece of plastic could be removed and a longer spring put in the magazine tube.

Not that I would, just wondering if I could.

I THINK all you have to do is remove that offending piece - the spring is the full length already.  And why WOULDN'T you remove the stoopid plug?  The law doesn't matter anymore.

The plastic cylinder has been cut down and re threaded onto the cap that is in the end of the magazine tube, and now will hold thirteen 44-40 cartridges.    Obviously more than I would need at a CAS shoot...

But as Steel Horse puts it... "why WOULDN'T you...?"

Howdy again!

If that yellow plastic plug offends you, a replacement aluminum version can be gotten from Nate Kiowas Jones www.stevesgunz.com or from Brownells.  It's an easy fix - OR, if you're real talented and have the proper metalworking tools like my pard Paladin, you can DIY!
