I have made comments in other posts about leather work being a heritage...and that's exactly what it is...at least in my mind.
Can you imagine the process by which the "pioneers" and "out-ranges" would have to go through to produce a good servicable item like a scabbard or holster, belt, saddle....which the list goes on and on..
Going through the actions of building this part, or that part, of a CAS rig, gives a fella insight as to how precious the; ability, need, requirement, for having the right equipment.
To me, it is obvious that those who would survive, were the ones able to survive through ability.
It's no small matter to gather first food, then make good of the renderings from the remains that would allow you to protect precious items like firearms (if you had one), Leather goods that would allow you to control an animal 5 times your size, to plow, ride, and work. Even niceties like making hinges for doors and windows, even applies.
I'm not sure how some of you folks feel about the work that you produce. Wether or not you feel it is top notch or good-nuff..
I know for me...There's always something, that I feel that I could have done better, or try another way.
Wouldn't be nice if folks could get together and have enough time to learn from each other on tricks and tips and shear "old fashion know how"
I guess when it's all said and done...things like this forum (and others) are just that. Like others, I have learned from some of you folks out there, and maybe I have helped a time or two...Pretty much the "cowboy way" I believe.
Thanks to the folks who make these little "portals" for us to be able reach out and visit. Thanks to all of you that spend your time and ability here with the rest of us. There might come a day when a new young face will walk up and say...."what ya doing, can I try?"....that's nothing but legacy right there...and you fellows help to make it happen...
God Bless and thanks...
