Ruger Montado
« on: December 21, 2007, 07:44:40 PM »
:) I got mine yesterday. I like it. Good balance, Feels good in the hand. And i don't care if it can't be used for SASS matches. It looks very much like the model used by Bat Masterson in the TV series.

If you don't know about this Ruger model, look at http://www.galleryofguns.com/gungallery/Showcase_specials/display_subentry.asp?i=5&parent_id=14 , featured guns. The latest issue of Guns of the old west has an article about it. ;)

Very good article in the most recent GOTOW magazine about the Montado. Would love to have one for a BBQ and/or carry gun.

Very nice, but tell me why can't it be used for SASS?  :o

It is designed for SASS Mounted and is legal for that regiment...

As far as Range Matches (I say stay tuned at least for SASS sanctioned events)
The reason is the low wide Hammer  & the serrations on the grip frame (better Grip ) both are advantages to mounted shooting...
but are viewed as external mods which are not allowed ..... yet ! I mean as far as The Montado is concerned.

I suspect if it sells in enough copies, a case will be made to allow it... heck they allowed the Henry Big Boy

Here one I built last month in 44-40 which is super shooter.. the ft sight, hammer, and grip are all against the rules..
But I have alot of fun shooting it anyway..

I guess about the "external" modifications, but I thought that was for only non-factory mods.
Anyway, given enough interest I suppose rules will change.

BTW the Omnipotent made the OK list and like the Henry is a replica of - nothing.

Maybe Davidson's will produce one with a standard grip frame and standard hammer.  Then it would be legal right????

I spoke to some of the representatives from Davidson's at Shot Show back in January....
I asked about the likelihood of the NMV made in the OMV Sheriff's 3 1/2" pattern.
I was told they have to have a "sound market run of 2500 guns to make it profitable". I mentioned this in a thread here on the BB.
There was maybe a dozen or so interested by the responses...This was before the Montado was intro'd or reviled.

The OMV Sheriff was legal , I would imagine the Montado with a replaced NMV hammer and the serrations removed would be as legal as a
Short barreled NMV.
However, there is that pesky SASS exterior Mod rule.

Howdy Folks. Love the ROA and my 58's. I was looking at the Montado as a CCW with maybe a Texas Jack shoulder holster. Whada think?

In the former thread highlighted in my post above..several agreed CCW was a natural for the Montado...It was my first impression for it's use, and I still do  :)
