USFA Henry Rifle Copy/Clone Poll?
« on: May 23, 2007, 12:33:09 PM »
OK,
Lets see if we can get something started...The Poll is simple. If USFA made an American made copy of the Original Henry, or at least one as close as the Uberti Henry.....who would be interested, say at a reasonable price under $1500.00 MSRP? Simple enough??

I would be interested in most anything USFA puts out.  I think they would do a great job with the Henry.  I would be willing to go a bit over 1500 if it were exceptionally well done.  I voted a big YES.  Safe shooting.  Deadeye.

I voted yes.

I would definitely be interested. I doubt that I would buy one simply because I got my Henry last year, at a very good price, and I doubt if I would be able to aford one made by USFA. But I would most definitely be interested if it was at least as close a replica as the Uberti is.

Frankly, I can't understand why the other poll was even started. I can't imagine those other guys in Brooklyn have the slightest interest in creating anything that remotely resembles a Henry, other than coloring the frame yellow, and making it load from the front. There is a heckuvalot more than that to making a reasonable replica. If USFA were to do it, they would do it right.
That’s bad business! How long do you think I’d stay in operation if it cost me money every time I pulled a job? If he’d pay me that much to stop robbing him, I’d stop robbing him.

Ya probably inherited every penny ya got!

Rawhide Rio gave us permission to post this poll over on the USFA forum too, as Deadeye Don suggested...lets see what kind of a response we get.

Seth,
Check the poll question out on the USFA forum....the answer you wanted to check is there... ;) ;)

Bill, I voted "hell yes", but I am totally happy with my Uberti as it's very authentic IMO. There's really not a lot I'd change on the Uberti Henry. I just don't want USFA to bite off more than they can chew & become like Uberti has lately, meaning introducing so many models that their production can't keep pace, e.g., Richard Type II conversion.

USFA arms are unquestionably very high quality.  However their prices are nearly triple that of their competiton.  And they are not three times better.

I would love to have a Henry (expecially in .44 Russian) but given their pricing, a USFA Henry will probably run a minimum of
$ 2500.00.  Way out of my price range.

I don't plan on going through the hoops Dusty is but I would love to have one in .44 Russian to go with my Uberti .44-40!

Bill

But it is three times as much as a Uberti.  Granted the USFA is probably a better investment; but if you just want one to shoot they arn't three times better.

If I hit the lottery or write a best selling western novel, I would probably have a USFA "Colt" made to my specs.  That is the beauty of the USFAs; you can get just what you want.  You don't have to settle for barrel length, caliber, finish, etc.

Hmmmm..... A 5 1/2 in barrel, nickle plated .44 special.  Then I could shoot "Russians" just like in my Henry.

Books

....I wonder if I could get that with Rosewood grips?

Well, the hoops weren't too bad.  About $200 to rechamber to .44 Spl.  Then another $175 for a new carrier to handle shorter cartidge.  The rechamber was done by Happy Trails at The Smith Shop.  May have to wait on the carrier, as Hap is still laid up.  So even paying the usual Uberti retail, and adding a tad less than $400, you would come out ahead of the probable cost of a USFA Henry.

I want one in 44 Remington C.F. (which is the same as OAL as the 45 LC but smaller dia brass(44 Colt or 44 Specia (cut down lgth.)l but with the .451-.452 Grooves.
I might get one in 45LC and have it rechambered around the cartridge., I know the cartridge with 44 Special Brass(cut down to 44 Colt lgth.) and a 248 Gen Old West Mould heeled bullet will work as I have tried to feed it and chamber it in the 45LC. It worked great! Just a little too sloppy in the chamber area between the rim and the bullet(difference in the dia of the 44 Spcl and the 45LC brass) so i didn't fire it as it wasn't my rifle. It'll load and feed and eject just like the 45LC, but is much more authentic for the time period.

Anyone out there that'll rechamber a 45LC bbl for me?

My preference would run to a rifle chambered for .44 Russian.  And therein lies the problem.  There are a minority of us who wish to shoot with cartridges approximating the original in overall size, appearance and power (sigh).  My Henrys are now running cartridges of the correct length, but the work it took to get 'em there - oofda.  Of course, if were a factory rifle in .44 Russian, I'd still find something to screw with .........
