Dr. Bob, what you are describing is a different game than what SASS, W3G, and NCOWS play. At a SASS match, if I chose to (and I expect many many others as well), I could clean it every time. However, that isn't the challenge. The challenge is to shoot accurately, fast. Sometimes you can, sometimes you can't.
Since your background is in competitive rifle, which is a bullseye game, that colors your perception of what competitive shooting should be, along with your historical outlook. My background in shooting is very different from yours, and so that colors my perception.
We're talking about 2 different fundamental approaches to shooting. The SASS, W3G, NCOWS approach is one that I find enjoyable. You prefer the other. No argument from me on that. I really do hope that however you approach the game, you enjoy it. Just please don't try to impose your approach on to someone else that has a different one. That will reduce their fun factor.
We can talk about history and gunfights, but frankly, that's not the approach that I take. If, in a real GF, I get off 4 shots before the other shooter can fire 1 aimed one, and 2 of mine find their target, I win (and this is very possible, depending on the 2 shooters). Accuracy is final, however fast accuracy beats slow aimed fire every time. See what you need to see to make each shot, no more, no less.
